President Trump, 24 hours from his self-imposed deadline for picking a new F.B.I. director, told reporters on Thursday that he was “very close” to choosing a successor to James B. Comey, and he named Joseph I. Lieberman, the former Democratic senator and vice-presidential nominee, as a finalist.
But members of Mr. Trump’s staff — alarmed by his rapid embrace of Mr. Lieberman, a charming 75-year-old political operator with no federal law enforcement experience — have quietly urged him to take more time to make such a critical hire. By late Thursday, the president appeared increasingly likely to leave Friday for a nine-day foreign trip without picking a new director, according to three senior administration officials speaking on the condition of anonymity...
Others on Mr. Trump’s list are former Gov. Frank Keating of Oklahoma and former Representative Mike Rogers of Michigan, both Republicans. Mr. Rogers, a former F.B.I. agent, was endorsed by the agents’ association.
Also interviewed were two federal judges, Michael J. Garcia of the New York State Court of Appeals and Henry E. Hudson of Federal District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.....

Unbelievable and I hope to hell that Lieberman is not his choice.
I am calling Presidents telephone number to let him know, not Lieberman.
Joe is too old to fight off the leftist partisan lawyers from within the FBI and Dept Justice.
We need a lawman, not a blivovating lawyer.
Sheriff David Clarke or even Trey Gowdy.

Although I would trade McCain for Lieberman in a heart beat, I still don’t trust anyone who runs as a Democrat.

Lieberman is 75 years old and a long time Clinton confidante with no law enforcement experience. The only caveat is that he is a long time friend of Trump and maybe he’ll curtail the empty charges against Trump.
Bad idea.
Law enforcement professionals are a special breed - dedicated to the law of the land. It is in their DNA. I see only one who might have what it takes and it isn’t Lieberman. Say what you may, he is a politician and I am not pleased with that selection by any stretch of the imagination.
P.S. - When he says the FBI agents would like the selection of Lieberman, he is in error!

Feels like an Art of The Deal chess move, like the Romney-for-State thing. Act like you’re considering a neocon Deep Stater, then back off due to “inexperience” (of which Loserman has none).
