President Donald Trump's choice for Army secretary announced Friday that he is withdrawing his name from consideration.
"It is with deep regret today I am withdrawing my nomination to be the Secretary of the Army," Mark Green said in a statement. On Tuesday, CNN reported that the nomination was in serious jeopardy, and he could be withdrawing as soon as this week, three sources familiar with the matter told CNN. The decision by Green, Trump's second pick for the post, came after his nomination ran into trouble following a backlash after past controversial statements on LGBT issues, Islam and evolution were revealed. Both the White House and Pentagon had told reporters earlier Friday there was nothing to announce regarding Green's nomination.

In other words, NO ONE is allowed to have political free speech unless the Left approves it.
He should have stuck in there and told them to shove it up their collective asses.
Agreed. Besides Green will be much more valuable for us in TN. He has much more to gain for his future if he rightfully rises through the TN political ranks.
His political career is over if he’s sec of army and something goes wrong with the NORKS or some other type of disaster-think Like Les Aspin and Somalia.
If he had no stomach for fighting, he had best stay out of TN Republican primaries, which are heavily loaded with establishment types.
TN is very much a political correctness state, maybe more so than KY.
DUNCAN HUNTER. REAGAN REPUBLICAN, AIRBORNE, RANGER, 2 TOURS IN VIETNAM.
LET ANYBODY OBJECT TO HIM.
It will be a great thing to watch the war hero conservative run against the establishments types that were (typically) all far too good to serve their nation in uniform. He shouldn’t questions their patriotism though...that’s for his supports to do :)
Mark Green withdraws, after McCain joins dems in attacking him.
The good news is he might get back in the TN gubernatorial race.
“Mark Green withdraws, after McCain joins dems in attacking him.”
McCain only does and says things that he thinks will draw public attention to HIM. He is a traitor to conservative Americans and a sell out..... probably not the first time.
Mark Green decides to NOT reenter the gubernatorial race
“I will not be resuming my campaign for governor,” the state senator from Clarksville said in a statement Friday afternoon. “I will instead look to Washington, D.C., to help serve our country and provide real help to President Trump.”
In other news, Montana AG Tim Fox decides NOT to run for the US Senate. It’s rumored he wants to run for Governor in 2020 instead, decided post-body slam (as it’s unlikely Gianforte will run for Governor again now). We need someone to take out Tester.
There’s some suspicion that Green may challenge Corker for Senator. The Conservative standard-bearer for Governor of TN will be State Sen. Mae Beavers from my adjacent district (I was once in her district, then represented by her odious Dem weasel predecessor, but got shifted in 2002 from that suburban seat to a VRA urban district).
In Montana, the filing deadline to run in the 2018 GOP Senate primary is next March, and the primary itself is in June. There’s plenty of time for Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke to announce that he’s running for the Senate.
More problematic is fundraising, though. Zinke can’t really do that as a sitting Cabinet Secretary.
He can resign next March and start fundraising. And I assume that he has cash in his old House acampaign account that he could transfer to a Senate run. Besides, most of the money will be spent by the NRSC and by conservative PACs, which can start running “issue ads” pointing out Jon Tester’s liberal votes well before Zinke announces. (The NRSC only has two potentially vulnerable GOP incumbents that it will need to defend, so it will have plenty of cash to spend softening up support for RAT incumbents such as Tester, Heidi Heitkamp, Joe Manchin, Claire McCaskill, Joe Donnelly, Tammy Baldwin, Sherrod Brown, Debbie Stabenow, Bill Nelson, Amy Klobuchar, Tim Kaine and Angus King(and (and maybe Martin Heinrich and Bob Menendez).
The question is whether he’s even going to run, and I’ve heard and seen nothing to indicate that he actually will since leaving the House. It seems like a waste of time and effort to have gone through the confirmation process for Interior Secretary only to hold the position for a year (or less) if his sights were already set on running for the Senate seat, for which then holding the Cabinet office would interrupt badly needed time to fundraise.
