Trump Derangement Syndrome sends NYT’s in-house "conservative" David Brooks off the deep end
American Thinker ^ | 04/22/2017 | David Zukerman

Posted on 04/22/2017 6:20:59 PM PDT by SeekAndFind

Once upon a time, David Brooks was considered the house conservative at the New York Times.  But in his April 21 New York Times column, he put President Donald J. Trump on a list of "strong men" that includes Turkey's Recep Erdoğan and North Korea's Kim Jong-un.  Mr. Brooks noted that Erdoğan has "dismantle[d] democratic institutions and replace[d] them with majoritarian dictatorship."  The Times columnist went on to assert: "While running for office, Donald Trump violated every norm of statesmanship built up over these many centuries[.]"  Mr. Brooks, however, does not elaborate, explain, or elucidate the nature of the alleged violations.

But when it comes to discussion of President Trump, NeverTrumps like David Brooks feel no need to place their anti-Trump views on a foundation of fact.  For Trump-haters, the truth is in the accusation.  And so, comparing President Trump to Turkey's Erdoğan, Mr. Brooks does not set forth the democratic institutions dismantled by Mr. Trump, nor does he provide evidence of the "majoritarian dictatorship" that was constructed during the first 100 days of the Trump administration.  How could he, there being no such dismantling, no such dictatorship here?

Mr. Brooks recognizes "the collapse of liberal values at home," citing "fragile thugs who call themselves students [who] shout down and abuse speakers in a weekly basis."  But are these illiberals to be found under the banner of Trumpism – or under the banner of totalitarianism of left?

Mr. Brooks goes on to cite a study suggesting that only 57 percent of "young Americans" (age range not provided) are committed to democracy, compared to "91 percent in the 1930's[.]"  What is the source of this declining commitment to democracy: student Republicans, or students influenced by leftist professors?  Mr. Brooks does not say.

Interesting...I was about to write the same thing.

Brock started out full-on conservative then rejected all that made him famous in order to be popular with the liberals.

Brooks started out working for NR, having been tuned-up by Milton Friedman as an undergraduate, only to become a promoter of "the McCain-Lieberman Party" and a fan of Obama and Hillary.

Brooks is also akin to a reverse Whittaker Chambers.

Sort of like Artemus Gordon, but stupider.

Now there's a popular culture referent that may have some scratching their heads.

dismantle[d] democratic institutions and replace[d] them with majoritarian dictatorship

Majoritarian dictatorship IS democracy. That is why actual democracy was not considered at the Constitutional Convention. It is what pure democracy is from the outset and what other forms of democracy tend toward.

Don’t feel too bad. We’ve only been treating God like that for what, millennia?

Trump Derangement Syndrome is sending a sad number of FReepers off the rails tonight.

Yes, it's very sad, but I've been telling people about Trumpazine for months.  During the primaries, many Cruz supporters experienced the gut wrenching symptoms of TDS.  But a regimen of Trumpazine 2 times a day for 2 weeks cured them.

The Never-Trumpers are a more difficult case.  For them, the prospect of losing hundreds of thousands of dollars a year in lobbyist kickbacks or so-called "swamp money" is utterly devastating.  They fear they won't be able to maintain their lavish Washington lifestyles.

This is why doctors recommend Never-Trumpers increase the dosage of Trumpazine to one pill every two hours.

I suspect David Brooks' TDS case is even more severe.  He's a Never-Trumper who also works for the New York Times where TDS is now an epidemic.

Read the story about Trumpazine.

Perhaps it's because President Trump represents a grave threat to the Pedo Alliance and child sex trafficking?

It's just about the only thing that could get a lying NY Times #FakeStreamMedia journohack this exercised.

I missed the original post. What shocked me was the number of posters who are utterly lacking a sense of humor. Utterly. I hope we have kept their names. That post was great.

‘..he’s as left as left can be.’
Compared to the ‘Progressives’ at the NYT, he IS conservative. That’s scary.

Thanks. What happened at the time is a few Never-Trumpe trolls hung out on FR to dis any favorable Trump posts. Often I’d see a negative reply appear in less than a minute after I posted something.
