U.S. May Not Be Able to Shoot Down North Korean Missiles, Say Experts
NBC ^ | April 19, 2017 | KEN DILANIAN

Top generals have been insisting for years that if North Korea launched a missile at the United States, the U.S military would be able to shoot it down.

But that is a highly questionable assertion, according to independent scientists and government investigators.

In making it, the generals fail to acknowledge huge questions about the effectiveness of the $40 billion missile defense system they rely on to stop a potential nuclear-armed ballistic missile fired by North Korean or Iran, according to a series of outside reviews.

"They are leading political leaders to believe that they have a military capability that they don't, in fact, have," says physicist David Wright, who has studied the program for years as co-director of the Global Security Program at the Union of Concerned Scientists.

Thank you for your post. You understand the ballistic trajectory thing. A missile from NK that reaches the US will be moving really fast. Our shoot down capability depends of this speed and at some point we will fail (miss with the shoot down) I am familiar with the THAAD missile and it is more for intermediate range launches. The full scale anti-missile program has not tallied as many “hits: as the THAAD but we are probably working things out as we speak.

Hi.

David Wright, could be right. Seems like the Nork’s missile can’t get out of the boost phase. Can’t shoot them down if they explode immediately after liftoff.

Bullcrap. My father was in the Marshall Islands in the early 1960’s doing it.

Let that sink in.

If NK ceased to exist this wouldn’t be an issue. The world can never have too many parking lots.

So far, they’ve been unable to launch one, but experts are saying that the US can’t shoot them down. There have been successful missile defense systems, such as the Patriots and Iron Dome. But even so, we can’t get them all, the experts say. One thing is certain, if they use nuclear weapons on the US and one of them hit, the Norks won’t be able to stop any of the US’ ICBMs.

The left has been peddling this same shit since 1985.

“It can’t work, so don’t even try”.

Of course they must contend that all the successful tests were rigged to make that assertion.

The only way to find out is to shoot down a Nork missile the FIRST time they launch one and don’t wait for the second or third missile launch. Then after you find out, follow with a MOAB.

That will settle the matter on both sides once and for all.

Backgrunder:
“It’s almost like having “Scientists” in their name is just for show and they are simply another political action committee. Well, that was their origin, they were founded to protest the Viet Nam war - but only after a Republican was in charge of it. And evidence is not required before they start a cultural jihad. In 2003, they tried to foment hysteria by claiming that antibiotics in fast food were leading to antibiotic resistance among the public, and after Democrats dutifully created legislation to act on it, there was found to be no evidence and UCS was forced to admit they made it up.” And it gets worse.

This will be good practice. We can make needed adjustments.

If not, then we have a good excuse for an Alpha strike mission to obliterate the missile program.

Now they tell us. One day they can, and then oops they can’t. Does not inspire a lot of confidence.

Who is "they?" Since when is the word of the Union of Concerned Scientists accepted over the Pentagon.

"Chris Johnson, a spokesman for the Pentagon's Missile Defense Agency, said the Pentagon "is confident in our ability to defend the homeland against ballistic missile threats." While the program had reliability challenges early in its development, "we have made significant improvements over the last several years to ensure the system is able to operate as designed," he added.
