Russia reacted to U.S. military strikes on its ally Syria Friday by cutting a hotline intended to prevent midair incidents, a response that demonstrates Moscow's readiness to defy Washington and could even put the two nuclear superpowers on a course toward military confrontation.
President Vladimir Putin signaled he was ready to risk a clash with the U.S. and abandon hopes for mending ties with the U.S. under President Donald Trump, rather than accept the humiliation of standing by while his ally is bombed.

> Theres absolutely no reason for this incident to get this out of hand. <
I must respectfully disagree. If this report is real (and not just kabuki theater), then the chances of a US - Russian accident over the skies of Syria has just greatly increased.
Must such an accident lead to war? Of course not. But wars have started over less.
SO MANY OF US WERE RIGHT!!!
Who here gave a #### when millions died in the Iraq/Iran war and chemical weapons were used?
Who here trusts the CIA?!?! Mossad?!??! or anyone at this point when they all have an interest in war continuing.
Who thinks there are really “moderates” out there? raise your hand.
Who thinks Ivanka and Jared are conservatives? If yes, based on WHAT?!?!
“Well it is getting out of hand, which is exactly why so many of us feel this move by Trump was reckless and dangerous.”
Nothing is getting out of hand. The Russians are behaving predictably & as gently as possible. They don’t want a shooting war with us anymore than we do with them. Especially since they would lose & lose badly if they dared to fight us directly.
Too many want to set their hair on fire over this incident, IMO. Trump did a good thing & projected strength after ending the era of weakness. I applaud President Trump’s decision to follow General Mattis recommendation.
Just disposing of some old missiles
Rand Paul says he has seen no intel to support this strike.
“Just with those tin pot dictatorships .”
Why is it our responsibility to go around the world bombing and invading countries? I’m tired of the Neocon superman routine.
Russian “fishing trawlers” (the ones with more than 100 radio and radar antenae) used to drift and wait until we were hooked up with an oiler or ammo ship off Yankee Station and then steam straight towards us at their flank speed and force an early breakaway. This game’s been played a long time.
> a response that demonstrates Moscows readiness to defy Washington and could even put the two nuclear superpowers on a course toward military confrontation <
You said that was hyperbole, and you are right. But still...if the report is true, the chance of a US-Russian accident over the skies of Syria has increased. And different people respond to such accidents in different ways.
The risk-reward of all this is not favorable, in my opinion. Time will tell.
Until that happens, this is all just made-for-TV drama designed to inflate the ratings for network and cable news programs.
“kabuki theater”
You’ll have the smartest reply on this thread.
Obvious that Russia and US collaborated on this.
I tend to think you are right about the theatrics.
We outta nuke the Russians preemptively for even daring to challenge us on this!
“Why is it our responsibility to go around the world bombing and invading countries? Im tired of the Neocon superman routine.”
You can be tired, but your representatives in this Democratic Republic are not. You elect people to represent you. You don’t elect your pet issues or feelings about war.
The argument Paul is making is weak. One would have to ascribe common sense and rationality to Assad to arrive at those conclusions.
Most of my post is mixed with joke, sarcasm, hard truth, and cold facts. And some fake news and rumors here and there. Over all, it is my post and I am proud of it.
Actually it is hilarious. Shows what a bunch of lies it all is.
And so. The also-ran of a losing team has what to offer? As far as I’m concerned he’s a “never did-never will make it” loser. If the media wants a stupid opinion they can go to McCain, Lindsey, Schumer or that some other full-time lunatic.
Do tell, that was the motivation for Assad to use chemical weapons?
