Syria decries 'aggression' as US launches cruise missiles

BEIRUT (AP) — The United States fired cruise missiles into central Syria early Friday morning, striking an Assad government-controlled air base where U.S. officials say the Syrian military launched a deadly chemical attack that killed dozens of civilians earlier this week. Syrian state TV called the attack an "aggression" that lead to "losses."

About 60 U.S. Tomahawk missiles hit the Shayrat air base, southeast of Homs, a small installation with two runways, where aircraft often take off to bomb targets in northern and central Syria. The U.S. missiles hit at 3:45 a.m. Friday morning and targeted the base's airstrips, hangars, control tower and ammunition areas, U.S. officials said.

Believe me, I lost firemen friends in 9/11.

Lived to see it here.

But now SO MANY are sure from videos and this and that, that the attacks ARE VERY VERY LEGIT and PROVEN beyond all shadow of doubt.

Even if it makes NO SENSE for assad to use them.

And I thought the US signed off on Russia removing all the chemical weapons from Syria. Weren’t there observers?

The talking points to justify this action include and the POTUS even alluded to Obama’s policy in Syria as a fail.

When he said that the other day I knew military action was on the way.

I’m not being sucked into political animus right now.

Speaking of Obama, isn’t it interesting he did head to out of the way Tahiti. He didn’t want to be around for this SHTF moment.

This moment was planned months ahead and is designed to take out Assad. The intention is to remove him from power.

The only question is how Russia will respond as the war is ramped up.

So something no one has been able to explain about this so called fake news was minutes prior to the gas strike there were military aircraft flying over the location more than likely either providing intel or scoping targets.

So....

Either Russia was complicit in the delivery of the chemical strikes or Syria. Last I checked ISIS didn’t have aircraft or pilots.

I truly was only protesting the use of Iraq WMD, and the Benghazi “tape” as the chosen “proof” of misleading or fabricated intel.

I absolutely agree about recent evidence showing the FBI making up stuff out of whole cloth. As for the CIA, likewise, I expect them to be involved in disseminating a whole bunch of disinformation, and outright propaganda to suit their purposes as they’ve done for decades. Let’s not even get into what the State Dept. has done over the years (the last 8 especially). We’re still dealing with an infrastructure that has not been on the side of the American people in quite some time now.

I’m personally not sure what to think about who the real culprit behind these chemical attacks are - though I wouldn’t be surprised if it ends up that Assad is responsible. The guy isn’t above doing this, and it’s not like he hasn’t done it before. That said, I also don’t discount the possibility that ISIS or ISIS-supporters may have done this on purpose as well. If you want to go really far down the rabbit-hole... well, let’s not cause that’s a scary, and very dark place, and what we’re dealing with on the surface at this point is scary enough.

We don’t owe leaders absolute loyalty. But Trump is here for a reason. He was selected by The Almighty to lead America back to greatness. This was won’t be a one-time bombing. This will be a long engagement. We all need to show unity to the president and the troops. I don’t care what the Islamists think. Let them believe that this is good for them. But I know that God has a plan. In the end, we’ll be safer. But we have to show unity.

We lost Vietnam because of a lack of resolve at home. We left Iraq too soon for the same reason. We need to go back to the old ways, back to when we didn’t coddle disloyal Americans during war times.

Look at this warmongering neocon-artist call for the suspension of the US constitution and it’s rights guaranteed to all of Americas citizens.

It could be as you say. Here is my thoughts on the matter with the little real information that I have...which is the same as all of us have.

It could have been Assad, or it could have been a false flag. It it was Assad’s gassing of kiddies, then the response was measured and appropriate in that it hit just one airbase and not the capital. The Russians were informed to let them either hunker down or get out of the way. This was not an attack on Russians. It was a slap across the nose of Assad.

It seems as though it was an attack on military infrastructure rather than personnel, although I have no real information on that.

Now if Trump was wrong and it was a false flag, then it was the destruction of an airbase and not Syrians themselves. We can apologize and after its all over rebuild a beautiful airport I suppose.

I do not know what the right response should be. The world does need to stand up to horrendous actions to prevent future ones. Does President Trump have the right information or was he buffaloed? I really do not know. But I think he acted with the information he had in a measured way to send a strong message to Assad, the Russians, and Chia Pet in NK. Whether it was based upon correct information or not will be known in the next several days.

This is not WW3, but a single action to stop the use of chemical weapons. I am not thrilled about the whole thing, but I want to believe that the President knows that there was potential for there to be a false flag operation. If not him, than Bannon should know of the possibility and advised accordingly.

As for McCain and Company and the Deep State and Neo-cons...yeah, they are high fiving themselves but I think that the President is not acting to suit their agenda but his. At least that is my hope.

And that is my humble two cents worth. I neither applaud nor condemn this action at this point until more information is available in the coming days.

Good for you DP0622.

We are being herded into war by the carefully crafted lies of the US intelligence community, and (some) FReepers are cheering.

get out of here.

you aren’t a conservative.

you love Trump or you wouldn’t even be on FR

And yet here YOU are.

Therefore, by your reasoning, YOU love Trump as well.

And you aren't a conservative either.

Why don't you follow your own advice?

You'd think the US just declared all out war against a country.

Sheesh, it was a limited strike against a MILITARY target.

ONE.

As to the wisdom of that move, time will tell.

Trump has done other stuff already that people have freaked over and then it's turned out he's known all along exactly what he is doing.

He has access to far more information that we do from Twitter. I'm going to wait and see before I come to any conclusions about the matter. It's already done so my freaking out can't change that.

I found this interesting comment being interested in Israel’s opinion on the matter.

U.S. Strikes Syria in Response to Assad Regime’s Chemical Attack in Idlib

“The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office released a statement praising the strikes, saying President Trump sent a strong message that the use and distribution of chemical weapons won’t be tolerated.

Hey Rubio loves it and look he thinks it’s more than just a message (from Drudge article),

“Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), who serves on the Senate foreign relations and intelligence committees, told CNN’s Anderson Cooper this evening that “I don’t believe this is a message; I believe this is actually a tactical action that furthers an objective, which is important. My guess is, and I think you’ll see confirmation of it shortly, al-Shayrat Airfield, which is where these chemical attacks were launched from with fixed-wing aircraft a couple days ago, is going to be the target, and that is the airfield from which the chemical attacks were launched. It’s also a critical point in a part of the country where they’re battling rebels, non-ISIS rebels, in the northern part of Syria. So as I said, it’s an important and decisive step that was taken. It is not a message; it is an actual degrading of the capability of Syrian regime to carry out further chemical attacks against innocent civilians. This will degrade their capability to launch those attacks from the air, and I think it was an important step and hopefully it’s part of a comprehensive strategy moving forward to bring to a close this chaos that’s happening in Syria.”

Thank God for President Trump, he has appointed a superb cabinet. We have rules again. The error of the last eight years has ended.

Yes, if you want to have to suppress the Russian air defenses. (Hint: suppress means blow up).
