Marvel Comics aren’t doing well. Sales have declined, even as Marvel has pushed out every major event and crossover it can over the past two years. In a recent interview during the Marvel Retailer Summit, Marvel VP of Sales David Gabriel decided to ignore all the problems and criticism in order to place the blame on diversity.
What we heard was that people didn’t want any more diversity. They didn’t want female characters out there. That’s what we heard, whether we believe that or not. I don’t know that that’s really true, but that’s what we saw in sales. We saw the sales of any character that was diverse, any character that was new, our female characters, anything that was not a core Marvel character, people were turning their nose up against.

Yep, they have reaped their just rewards. Hopefully, the old media empire goes the same route.
So adding minorities and women to comic books to the point of pandering doesn’t make them want comic books in the same way that white boys (boys ages 6-100) have wanted them for 80 years? Diversity actually means that people like different things, and sometimes the motivator is cultural or even biological.
There are exceptions, of course.
Despite the obvious implications of their sales slump, I strongly encourage Marvel Comics to pursue “diversity” by producing products their customers clearly do not want, even if it takes Marvel into bankruptcy.
The Social Justice war is FAR more important than the mere profitability of a public corporation whose stock is held in pension funds of those surviving elderly workers who are about to attempt retirement after nearly working themselves to death.

I think they are OK with hot ones that they can fantasize about. They won’t be the LEADERS and certainly not stand-alone, but there is a place for chicks.

Nice pic! Thx! I’m enough of a girlie-girl to have gone nutso over the wedding of Scott Summers and Jean Grey. But the writing was fantastic and the art awesome. And I loved the characters. I stopped reading any of the X-Men years ago. If I need a comic fix, I get some of my back issues out. They’re better than anything on the market these days.
They looked so happy and the even had royalty with little crowns. So crushing to discover that they were basically bugs. Brine shrimp. An entire generation or two of boys and a few girls utterly crushed. Almost as bad as Santa Claus not being real, lol.
Back in 1964-1967, I had to take the Elevated train to my Inner-City Jr High School. At The terminal, there was a news stand, where I spent all my lunch money to buy comic books to read on the L-O-N-G train ride to Dorchester.
I read Superman and Batman, but my favorites were The Incredible Hulk, The Fantastic Four, and other Marvel Heroes. Thor, I think, came a little later, but I liked him too.
I liked the More Virile portrayals in Classical Art as well, like Renaissance portrayals of muscular Saints vs. The Medieval Era’s thin, wispy, ethereal ones. As an Art Major, I was exposed to it all and made my choices based upon my own preferences.
The publishers of “Entertainment” would do well to heed that advice and stop forcing an agenda.
Its the stupid morals slapped on akwardly to the stories...the shallow dogmatic PC morals. People have enough of that crap as it is without encountering more in comic books.
The SJWs are now turning their attention to video games and exactly the same thing is happening.
They’ve already taken over Bioware and completely destroyed one game I used to like. I hear they’ve done the same with the Mass Effect franchise too.
The left destroys everything it touches. And then compliments itself for doing it.
Go ahead, Marvel. Blame the customers.
…And have you considered that all the money that they might have spent has gone into relatively cheap movie tickets rather than pricey comics?

I don’t think there is anything wrong with women superheroes. It just seems that the idiots think the only way to make women look strong is for men to become mewling wusses.

Let’s face the facts, we all lost the appeal of the old superheroics characters to younger generations, and the whole industry limps on crossover events. Your average buyer is a white male at 30 plus years old.
Superhero comics aren’t as popular with females as they are with males, who knew? - everyone.
