Daylight-saving time is dumb and we should get rid of it
Business Insider ^ | March 10, 2017 | Dave Mosher

Steel yourself: It's nearly time to turn our clocks forward an hour for the start of daylight-saving time (DST).

This arcane and terrible ritual officially starts on March 13, 2016.

At 1:59 a.m. on Sunday morning, our clocks will wind forward an hour to 3:00 a.m. instead of 2:00 a.m.

That gives us one less hour of sleep and means the sun will rise an hour later than we're used to.

I don’t think POTUS can do anything about it. Isn’t it a state matter?

I’m against DST because it makes the birds start chirping an hour earlier.

Close. We should simply be on DST year-round.

And kids shouldn’t be dragged to school at 7 am.

I love daylight savings. Now I can get a late tee time and actually finish my round. I don’t care if it’s dark when I get up and don’t have time to enjoy the outdoors. Now we can enjoy after dinner swims and bike rides!

Permanent daylight savings for me.

I’ve always thought DST was some kind of misguided scheme to manipulate the sun rising and setting via the appearance (like lemmings/ostriches might observe) about the actual effect.

The problem with it is that you can manipulate to your liking what happens on one end (sunrise or sunset) very nicely if you can all agree, but you cannot manipulate BOTH. And therein lies the rub (as William would say) !

We have DST because more of us like it than do not.

I agree. I think we should adopt DST and leave it year round.

A single, worldwide time zone has been in place for many years in Aviation and other industries: it’s galled Zulu Time (military) or GMT (Greenwich Mean Time). All on a 24-hour clock.

I write computer applications. DST causes issues with payroll, invoicing, dispatching, etc. It is easier to store the information in GMT and then covert it to whatever timezone you need for the screen/reports.

I wish they would do away with it.

I love DST. I love that it is light until almost 9pm in the summer. And no one needs the sun to rise at 4am. So I am enthusiastically for it.

Perchance, did you consult nature on this? Birds, chickens, and more importantly, roosters? :0)

The Fall back is ok but the Spring forward is awfull. Maybe a week off in Spring should be mandated.

I can’t or won’t mow my yard before breakfast.

I prefer mowing after supper in the daylight

Agree. I like being able to leave the office to play 18 weekday afternoons. Or being able to cut grass during the week instead of butchering my weekend to get that done. I’m a fan of DST.

The examples provided in the article, increased energy usage etc, also demonstrate that DST is beneficial to business across the board.
