Manpreet Kooner, 30, is a Canadian citizen who was born to Indian parents in Canada and raised here. She now lives in Montreal's LaSalle borough.
She told CBC she was on her way from Montreal to a spa in Vermont for a day trip with two friends, who are both white, Sunday afternoon. They never made it.
Kooner said she was held at the border for six hours before being turned away.
At one point, she said, a border agent told her: "'I know you may feel like you've been Trumped,'" an apparent reference to U.S. President Donald Trump.
Trump's January executive order barring citizens from seven majority-Muslim countries from entering the country was later blocked in U.S. courts, but has touched off legal battles and confusion around the world.

Oh and btw, from last year
“Kooner said this summer, her mother was turned away at the border as well, but wasn’t told why. Kooner said she was told her mother’s issues wouldn’t impact her.
She first had trouble getting into the U.S. last December. She was with friends and her fiancé when her car was pulled over for what she was told was a random check, she said.
She was made to fill out a number of forms, but was eventually told there was a problem with the computer system and they should return the next morning.
When they went back, she was let through without any problems.”
Is she on the left or on the right in the picture?
It says she is a Canadian woman. Is she a Canadian citizen?
Nice of them to mention this ... although it HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH a Canadian citizen born to Indian parents.
But. hey, opportunity to slam President Trump, so I guess they had to go for it.
I think that’s Chaz Bono on the right.
So, unless border agents have begun to randomly harass and turn around Canadian citizens otherwise eligible for entry .... there's more to this than the sob story reported.
Article says that she doesn't want to come back. I don't see a problem with that.
EXACTLY. There is so much detail missing. But this is pretty typical of MSN reports over the past few years.
Nobody puts Manpreet in a Kooner!
She was born in Canada and her parents are Canadian citizens. Her mother has been stopped in the past, and so has she, so there is probably some history of contacts with groups that are not okay. I don’t know. Indians are not usually a problem; Pakistanis (mostly Muslim) are. There are some Indian Muslims, but I don’t know if she was one of them.
So there’s more than meets the eye here, and she’s not being refused entry because she’s Indian...India isn’t even on the list.
I too have been inconvenienced by border agents and customs officials. When do I get my newspaper article? I really need that kickstarter campaign.

Mummy has issues....
Always more to the story
My son lives on the border. His wife is Canadian. They go back & forth. She works and lives in Canada. He works & lives in USA. He has been refused entry in Canada despite having proper credentials. The woman on duty looked to be Muslim, since she had on head covering. He’s had to go through extra checks for months after. Other agents were surprised he was flagged, but they still have to go through the extra checks once you are flagged.
Sounds like baloney to me
Obama must be a racist.
I’ve crossed the Canadian/US border _many_ times (married a Canadian).
Basic understanding: both sides may refuse entry from the other country for _ANY_ reason (or none!). If they got the slightest whiff that she wasn’t just crossing for a few hours at the spa, border guards absolutely are empowered to send someone back. The whole notion of crossing that line with nothing more than a passport is a matter of convenience, suspended at any moment, little more than an understanding that border guards have great leeway in allowing entry and overlooking concerns as they see fit.
Gonna complain about our very lax entry requirements for Canadians? don’t like it when an occasional citizen is told to bring more than just a passport? We can slam that gate shut at any moment and require ALL to have visas for EVERY crossing. Don’t ruin a good thing.
Born in Canada, just as much a Canadian as Ted Cruz.
What a load of crap and somebody better tell the border agents not to use words like trumped!! fire his ass
And yet..we just can’t get rid of Bieber ;-)
How does it work in Canada, is someone born in Canada to foreign parents automatically a citizen, or what?
