Are you concerned that Neil Gorsuch belongs to a far-left church?
American Thinker ^ | 02/10/2017 | Ed Straker

President Obama was criticized by Republicans for attending a church led by Jeremiah Wright, who repeatedly criticized the United States for being, in his own opinion, an evil terrorist nation.  People wondered, how could Obama sit through sermons like that, year after year?  Didn't that mean that at the very least, Obama didn't have any serious problems with what Wright was saying?

Well, we saw after eight years of Obama that that was probably true – that Obama saw America in a bad light.  That's why he kept trying to "fundamentally transform" it.

But what about Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch?  He belongs to a far-left church that embraces marriage redefinition, gun control, and the theory of man-caused global warming.

He belongs to St. John's Episcopal Church in Boulder, Colo., the Episcopal diocese of Colorado confirmed on Wednesday. Church bulletins show that the judge has been an usher three times in recent months. His wife Louise frequently leads the intercessory prayer and reads the weekly Scripture at Sunday services, and his daughters assist in ceremonial duties during church services as acolytes.

The first word that St. John's uses to describe itself on its website and Facebook page is "inclusive," and the church is led by a female rector. On its website, the church encourages members to write letters to Congress asking for actions addressing climate change.

That's not all.  Its website also calls for members to lobby their congressmen for more gun control.

And more:

Rev. Susan Springer has said she is pro-gay marriage and offers blessings to same-sex couples

The church's Rev. Ted Howard also signed a letter slamming the 'disrespectful rhetoric' directed at Islam as Trump floated a ban on Muslim immigrants[.] ...

My only comfort right now is maybe his wife picked the church and he goes for her.

There isn’t a mainline church that isn’t led by progay and pro muslim pastors

To that I would say - is Sotomayor attending mass regularly? At all? I doubt it. Nancy Pelosi likes to cite her Catholic Faith, but we all know its nonsense. We know there are many leftists, who are fake traditionalists - but does the opposite exist? Surface leftists who are actually strict traditionalists?

I don't know if Sotomayor is a practicing Catholic even though she calls herself one. The same with Pelosi. I just don't buy the rationalization that they are not Catholics because of how they stand on policy issues. Obama tried the same distinction with ISIS, i.e., they are really not Islamic because of their actions. There are millions of practicing Catholics who support abortion, not only in the US, but globally.

Does Gorsuch believe what his church teaches?

That is a personal decision. The question is how does it affect his legal decisions? Will he apply the law as written or try to legislate from the bench or impose his own views? I have seen nothing that seems to indicate that.

The question is does his church influence his opinions and thus do those opinions influence his judicial rulings. We’ve seen many supposed “conservative” justices selected by Repub presidents who turned liberal. So, there is a reason, based on history, to be concerned.

Keep your pants on Spartacus. There is zero requirement that a Supreme be on an appellate court. Hell, it isn’t even required that he be a judge by profession. A governor, senator, etc.
All is needed is an honest person that follows the law. The law is not particle physics that only some rare human can interpret. The constitution is crystal clear.

As for Harvard and the Ivies, Yes, I do believe it should be a disqualification these days. And Scalia was good. The exception proving the rule. I can list hundreds of Ivy graduates that are disasters. You will struggle to find 3 or 4 graduates that are admirable.

Some Federal Judge out of Lubbock Texas would be preferable to anyone from Boulder. That’s just a fact.

New York City. Beautiful churches but not enough congregants to expand

I had a reason to be at Columbia University a few months ago, so stopped by the Church of St. John the Divine a few blocks away. Never had been there, but I knew it was an old, blue-blood, long-standing head of NY City Espiscopal congregation.

A beautiful building. What I saw inside shocked me. They had removed most of the pews to hang a giant dragon from the ceiling - a work of art from China, apparently. Where did they even hold mass? A look at their activities was all about LGBT workshops, etc, etc..

I imagine what's left of the Episcopal Church is just a few insiders sitting on a bunch of empty buildings on extremely high-priced parcels of land. All that's left for them will be to fight about the money.

Have there been any supposed "liberal" justices who turned conservative? Rhetorical question.

It DOES bother me. Disqualify him?????? Not sure. I don’t know enough. I hope someone would (or HAS, to their satisfaction) question him on these issues.

It’s not questioning anyone’s religion, it’s questioning his positions on his church’s political positions. Global warming, gay marriage, etc. Also, If he disagrees with church positions, WHY does he attend such a church?

It’s close to his house. His wife likes it (this may be it). He’s a MASTER compartmentalizer and totally separates his religious or church’s positions from the law.

All acceptable reasons.

So, before we crucify Neil Gorsuch, let’s wait for more info (NOT FAKE NEWS) and more importantly, TRUST TRUMP.

And fly fishing.

It’s Church of England you know we replaced doctrinal infallibility of the pope with doctrinal infallibility of Henry VIII.

Gorsuch probably has a library card too, and we know what kinds of naughty and seditious books rhey have in the Boulder public library.

“For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature;

And the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.”

My daughter once worked at Denny’s near our house.
They had a young Russian emigre cook there on her shift.
They were talking one day about religion in the two countries.
He was mystified as to why there were so many Baptist churches all over the place. Seemed to him like there was one on every road somewhere along the way.

The answer was simple. Every time a Baptist church gets a new preacher, because the old one retired, died or left for another church, at least half of the congregation will not like the ‘new’ preacher and will split off and form their ‘own’ church under some new name..................

His judicial record is solid.

Church attendance is irrelevant.
I was a Methodist for many years (raised Catholic, but chased out by pedophile priests) after they moved my former Marine intelligence pastor and replaced him with a woman, I gave up on going. My wife continued to attend until her health prevented her from going anymore.
Churches change, some continue out of habit or social connections. Not that many Catholics have left even though their Pope is a NWO tool who recently said the Ten Commandments are too rigid and get in the way of joy.
Adulterers everywhere were relieved that their pursuit of joy outside their marriage has been blessed by the fake Pope.

Did somebody twist his arm to live up there and join that church?

The history of those decisions is relevant.

I was chastised yesterday for questioning why Trump hasn’t rescinded Obama’s illegal DACA program.
Some people consider any questioning of Trump to be heresy.
It was suggested that I leave.
It’s a bad idea for FR to become an echo chamber of blind adulation.
