A Tarrant County jury on Thursday sentenced a Mexican woman to eight years in jail a day after convicting her of two counts of illegal voting by a non-citizen. She will also have to pay an $8,000 fine.

During the trial, prosecutors showed that Rosa Maria Ortega -- a 37-year-old Mexican national who public records show has lived in the Dallas area since she was 15 -- falsely claimed U.S. citizenship on a voter registration form and voted five times between 2004 and 2014 ...

< I think they are completely aware of the problems they cause.

I don't think all of them are aware. Many just appeared to be non-thinking protester zombies following orders for pay working at the instructions of paid Soros' activist trainers. I reviewed hundreds of hours of protester videos and observed how they operate. There were the zombies who just marched and parroted what they were told to while they were being led by activist leaders who were out of the camera's view most of the time. They were like conductors with a marching orchestra similar to a marching band. There were props people who worked with makeup people and costume designers that would dress people up to make thm look diverse to give the imression that "everyone" hated Trump. Often you would see white females with hijabs and standard Muslim apparel who obviousy weren't convincing. Then you had the social media folks and camera operators who worked closely together to prepare footage, news / blogs, and memes to upload to websites everywhere and /or send their old college buddies who are now working for well known media organizations like Disney and ABC. I also noted many of the protesters and "leaders" knew each other and attended the same colleges and communicated with other Soros' activist groups like MoveOn.org and the BLM. So my conlusion was that the protesters and their "leaders" were all being paid to stage the protests but that there were higher paid activist leaders and specialists and then lower paid non-thinking "zombies" who we're just there primarily for the money. I don't think the zombies filled comprehended the consequences of their action but then again that sounds like one of the major traits for all liberals...

>> Destroying the fabric of our Representative Republic is a serious crime against us - 8 years is not harsh enough — for those who vote illegally or for those that aid and abet..

Agree.

Stealing our freedom, subverting the integrity of the voting system upon which our freedom is founded. Not much is too harsh. I would reserve the harsher penalties for those who orchestrate multiple illegal votes, i.e., those who recruit many like her, those who tamper with ballots and voting machines.

Not a bad idea, but I’d prefer no announcement at all. Why should we have to announce that we are going to enforce our laws. I say just do it.

I’d start with the most egregious offenders. Start prosecuting/jailing/deporting the illegal voters, the murderers, the rapists, those illegally on welfare, the frequent fliers in the court system. Make the penalties harsh and make them stick. Work your way down to the lesser offenses. Word will get out.

Making a threat that you can’t make good on (because catching and prosecuting all of them is virtually impossible, a few will always slip through the cracks, also because there are so many that the courts will be overwhelmed) is, IMO, a threat that will be largely ignored. But if they start seeing prosecutions everywhere around them, word of mouth will encourage more to self-deport. In addition, they won’t know who/when/where so the level of uncertainty will also be an advantage in encouraging self-deportation.

I’m with you. But hopefully the eight years of jail time she is facing provides strong incentives for her lawyers to suggest she pays the fine and leaves the country forever and in a hurry as an alternative to jail time and further appeals. 72 hours should be sufficient for her to make that decision.

8 years is a little harsh. I’d rather have her deported after 2 years of time with no chance of returning. Taking care of her for 8 years with my taxpayer money seems like a reward.

It sends two messages: (i) If you voted illegally, we're coming after you. You might want to self-deport your illegal a$$; and (ii) If you are here illegally and intend to stay, better think twice about voting in the next election.

Put these criminals on prison farms and make them earn their keep.

I would pay an admission fee to go and see them.

Win, win.

Deportation doesn’t work. They ALWAYS come back. Make it so she doesn’t want to come back.

Do Texas prisons even have air conditioning?

I hope the punishment for illegal voting by a non-citizen is death by firing squad. They could wait until they get 3 criminals and do the Pancho Villa execution where they line them up and use 1 bullet to kill all three.

Just $8000?
What about 8 years in prison, followed by mandatory deportation?

I would rather see them locked up for 8 years and fined 10,000USD per law violation. Deport and reutrn their possessions to the US Treasury after selling it off for scrap.

NOT 30 days. 3 days - out now.

3 days is plenty to back their things and leave.

30 days is too much time to kill, hurt citizens, do too much more damage than they have already done.

all welfare cuts off now too. It’s plenty humane to give them 3 days, as opposed to rounding up on today.

She negatively influenced elections illegally. I’d be glad to lock her up for life and throw away the key to be honest.

If you don’t start making public examples of them en mass then this problem will only continue to foment.
