~The FReeper Canteen Presents~ Road Trip: Naval Air Station Meridian, Mississippi Naval Air Station Meridian or NAS Meridian is a military airport located 11 miles northeast of Meridian, Mississippi in Lauderdale County and Kemper County, and is one of the Navy's two jet strike pilot training facilities. Naval Air Station Meridian trains Sailors and Marines in aviation and technical related fields. It is home to Training Air Wing One, Training Squadron 9, Training Squadron 7, Naval Technical Training Center, Marine Aviation Training Support Squadron One and the Regional Counterdrug Training Academy. The Air Operations Department employs 230 military and civilian personnel to operate NAS Meridian/McCain Field and Naval Outlying Landing Field (NOLF) Joe Williams. Their primary mission is to support Commander, Training Air Wing ONE, the wing's subordinate training squadrons and its associated T-45 Goshawk aircraft in the conduct of undergraduate strike pilot training. Additional services are furnished to support operations for NAS and transient military aircrews. Air Traffic Control Division operates the control tower and radar final control systems. NAS Meridian maintains a separate runway, Joe Williams Outlying Landing Field (OLF), approximately 25 miles northwest of the main air station. Joe Williams OLF is an 8,000 foot long runway located in a rural area between the communities of Bogue Chitto and De Kalb. The field is used to reduced traffic congestion at the main air station, primarily when students are conducting Field Carrier Landing Practice in preparation for initial aircraft carrier qualification. The Talking Tree
January 31, 2017
"He himself bore our sins" in his body on the cross.
1 Peter 2:24
One of the earliest Christian poems in English literature is The Dream of the Rood. The word rood comes from the Old English word rod or pole and refers to the cross on which Christ was crucified. In this ancient poem the crucifixion story is retold from the perspective of the cross. When the tree learns that it is to be used to kill the Son of God, it rejects the idea of being used in this way. But Christ enlists the help of the tree to provide redemption for all who will believe.
In the garden of Eden, a tree was the source of the forbidden fruit that our spiritual parents tasted, causing sin to enter the human race. And when the Son of God shed His blood as the ultimate sacrifice for all of humanitys sin, He was nailed to a tree on our behalf. Christ bore our sins in his body on the cross (1 Peter 2:24).
The cross is the turning point for all who trust Christ for salvation. And ever since the crucifixion, it has become a remarkable symbol that represents the sacrificial death of the Son of God for our deliverance from sin and death. The cross is the inexpressibly wonderful evidence of Gods love for us.
Lord, may my heart give You praise whenever I see a cross, for You gave Yourself for me in love.
Christ gave His life on the tree for our salvation.
Some experts in New Testament studies suspect that the poetic structure and inspiring thoughts of Colossians 1:1520 reflect the lyrics of a first-century song of worship. Paul must have often sung about Jesus, the Peacemaker who changed his life by returning good for evil when He bore the sins of the world. Do you have anyone you would consider an enemy? If so, you probably know why Jesuss example stands in such contrast to our normal human inclinations. The God who created and sustains the cosmos is the same God who chose to reconcile Himself to His enemies. Rather than turning on those who had done such evil to Him, our resurrected Creator reached out to say, I still love you. Come to me. Trust me, and I will forgive you and adopt you into my eternal family.

When I was growing up these guys use to drill mock bombing runs over my gulf coast town several times a day. F4’s roaring tree top low. Sonic booms coming back in over the water all the time.
When I was in the third grade we were playing outside with paper planes and two F4s came over the playground right over the trees. One of the guys was in a tilt and saluted the kids on his way past. We FREAKED! We were sure he saw us playing with the planes. Ha.

My First Daughter was born in 1968 when I was stationed at Meridian. John McCain was my instructor. He was a tyrant then, too.

My dad was an Instructor with McCain (Major Charles E. Cannon). He personally liked McCain, but thought he was pretty much the Pampered Prince.
Story- their Training Unit was being reviewed by some big-time, muckety-muck Admiral. All the Flight Instructors were in formation. There was a Marine 1st Lt. to my dad's left, and McCain to my dad's right. Anywhoo, the Admiral sees something wrong with the 1st Lt.'s Uniform and rips him a new one. He then reaches my dad and, seeing him squared away, moved onto McCain. In my Dad's Periphery vision, he could see McCain's dress whites were two different shades of white, he had a 5 o'clock shadow, and some of his hair was touching his ears.
The Admiral goes up to him, looks him over, then says, "Hey John, How's your dad doing?" whereby they carry on like two old buddies.
McCain has always had his skids greased.
