President-elect Donald Trump said in a weekend interview that he is nearing completion of a plan to replace President Obamas signature health-care law with the goal of insurance for everybody, while also vowing to force drug companies to negotiate directly with the government on prices in Medicare and Medicaid.
Trump declined to reveal specifics in the telephone interview late Saturday with The Washington Post, but any proposals from the incoming president would almost certainly dominate the Republican effort to overhaul federal health policy as he prepares to work with his partys congressional majorities.
Trumps plan is likely to face questions from the right, following years of GOP opposition to further expansion of government involvement in the health-care system, and from those on the left, who see his ideas as disruptive to changes brought by the Affordable Care Act that have extended coverage to tens of millions of Americans.
In addition to his replacement plan for the ACA, also known as Obamacare, Trump said he will target pharmaceutical companies over drug prices and demand that they negotiate directly with Medicaid and Medicare.

Insurance for everyone. Lower deductibles. Lower costs. This should be interesting.
The drugs are way out of whack...and have been for a long time. The USA picks up the tab for the lesser price of other countries. What’s new!!
I sure as hell hope that “eveyone” does NOT include illegal aliens.
Doesn’t the govt already decide how much drug companies can charge medicare/medicaid for drugs?
Look for Pharma stocks to take it in the shorts on Tuesday's opening.
Welfare....
The Donald has spoken favorably about single payer in the past, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see a single payer hybrid program presented.
Well if his goal is to come up with another government health care plan that only Democrats vote for then that would do it.
Insurance for everybody? Just great....
Lower costs for most. Most of us are healthy and don't get shot walking down the street. The people who have expensive chronic conditions will see higher premiums.
That's not what he said.
It should not be for the unhealthy and pre existing conditions insurers
They are the ones who use resources and run up healthcare costs.
Insurance for them should be catastrophic in nature only.
The only way to lower the cost of prescription meds in the US is to institute significant tort reform.
Every day I see a dozen commercials for ambulance chasing law firms seeking people who took some kind of prescription drug and telling them they might be eligible for some significant compensation.
Hey, you take a drug, you take the risk.
This should be single payer with those promises. If he traps himself into that then that is what politics will be all about from then on.
I tried to warn the trumpites that this was his position. I even posted a video of Trump making that very statement. And for telling the truth, I was suspended for a week.
That he wanted insurance for everyone? The horror!
“Insurance for everyone!”
“Booo!!”
“Insurance for no one!”
“Booo!!”
“Insurance for some, little American flags for the rest.”
“Yaaay!!!”
The horror is that he wants to provide healthcare for everyone in the country.
He might be on to something...
