A new commemorative coin from the U.S. Mint and Treasury features a fresh depiction of Lady Liberty. With a crown of stars in her hair and a toga-like dress, she's as patriotic as ever. She's also, for the first time on an officially minted coin, portrayed as a black woman.
The United States Mint unveiled the 24k gold coin in commemoration of their 225th anniversary. Gaze upon her beauty in full:

“She looks proud for her country for the first time in her adult life.”
I see what you did there... :)
+1
Waiting for the middle eastern liberty in a burka.
Why don’t we slap a half Hispanic, half Asian tranny midget just to cover all the bases?
Should have been a Black Republican Woman from the mid to late 1800’s just to rub the dems noses in their hypocrisy.
Insane pandering to political correctness.
Agreed. Stars too big for this denomination
But probably will show up nicely on the 1/4 and 1/10 ounce coins.
Yes, Peace dollar lady does look a little surprised, like a perch pulled out of the water.
I believe that may be an art deco expression, like the Greek archaic smile. Like the Arrow collar man always looked backed up.
La’Brit’tania: `sup girl? You mad?
Haha... good one. The Wookie One Hundred...
probably a good investment as not that many will be sold, thereby making it rare in the future; after all, i suspect there’s just not that many wealthy black numismatists.
Was going to post a button sporting the face of a pancake icon. But you know, there are so many great black Americans (Colonel West, Dr. Carson, Herman Cain etc etc) that I will celebrate those Americans and an image that possibly encapsulates their racial type and Liberty together.
The Black Athena dig is aimed at the crowd that believes the Greeks done robbed the black Africans blind, took all their high tech, maths, building science, etc, etc, etc, and added insult to injury by stealing the goddess Athena.
The bas relief image on the coin is nobody’s Athena, the goddess of wisdom, craft, and war in ancient Greek religion and mythology.
And the LIBERTY size is way out of proportion. They could have put the stars in the margin and LIBERTY on her forehead, and they would have had a nice design. Coin design in general has gone downhill. Some of the recent quarter reverses are just awful, obviously designed by a committee.
Two reasons not to change it...
The lady on the coin doesn't look like Frederic Auguste Bartholdi's statue.
It appears that it's being changed because of the fable that the original Lady Liberty statue was that of a black woman.
Fake Coin.
I think it most likely will be that an imaginary person was put on the coin instead of a real historical person...........................
I’ll never forget when that female reporter ran up to Trump and shoved a microphone in his face asking which female he wanted to see on the new coin. Trump, with a deadpan face, pauses for a moment and says, “My Mother”.
Who is Liberty?
What has Liberty done that is of note?
What laudable ideal does Liberty represent?
Excellent questions. And should be included in the essay portion of every High School seniors graduation examination.
That’s Mooch!
and any variant on that theme.
