Donald Trump’s historic opportunity to remake the courts, in 1 chart
The Washington Post ^ | January 10, 2017 | Chris Cillizza

Unlike many things that Trump said during the course of the campaign, he wasn't exaggerating about the massive impact he can have on the federal judiciary. The chart below, which comes from the must-have quarterly PowerPoint slide decks of GOP lobbyist Bruce Mehlman, makes that point starkly.

. Would be really funny if Trump nominated Merrick Garland to replace [Ginsberg]
  1. You don’t know how long Ginsberg will remain on the court.

  2. Kennedy is pretty old. He could leave first.

  3. In any event, we certainly should not welcome the elevation of any “liberal” to SCOTUS.

It is truly amazing what has happened. I supported Trump right from the beginning just because of the wall and immigration legal and illegal. It’s just gotten better and better.

Can you imagine a Supreme Court with 4 Trump appointees on it? Sounds great to me!

Me too. Now if only we can get them all under 40 years old so we have them for decades. I am afraid he likes people in their 60’s and 70’s by looking at his cabinet. I hope he is far from that with the Supreme Court. I looked at the list and most were in the 50’s and 60’s not good.

The odd idea is to watch what the Democrats do if Ginsburg has to be replaced. First, they will demand that Trump nominate a true liberal because of the balance of power on the Court and the Ginsburg seat they will declare as “their seat”. The Dems were posturing Garland as a moderate when Obama nominated him as someone the conservatives would find acceptable as a replacement for Scalia (which, of course, he is and they didn’t).

So, if Trump nominated Garland, what would the Democrats say? If he was good enough to replace Scalia, why would he not be good enough to replace Ginsburg? But I would bet the libs would *not* find Garland acceptable and would begin to lobby against him. If that were the case, and if I were Trump, I’d withdraw Garland’s nomination and give them a real conservative, telling the Dems “you had your chance”.

The irony and hysteria for the Left would just be so delicious. It would be so tremendously fun to watch.

Can you believe that paper would publish a photo like that of Trump?

It's what rags like the WaaaaaPo and NYSlimes do. Funny how that they consider to be a bad thing about the courts is what may salvage a good deal of our Freedom.

acceptable as a replacement for Scalia (which, of course, he is and they didn’t).”

Is that true? I had no idea that we should actually find Garland acceptable. If that is the case, then this is a brilliant strategy. But I can’t imagine that Garland is actually a conservative, except possibly a Souter-like conservative.

I mistyped. Garland is NOT an acceptable substitute for Scalia, but he would be for Ginsburg. What would make him a particularly interesting nominee is that the Dems would have a difficult time Borking a nominee they once supported for the same job. If he turns out to be a Souter, that’s okay because he’s replacing a full-out lib. But I don’t think the Dems will accept the gift and scream for either a minority to replace Ginsburg or a hard-line lefty. That’s where Trump springs the trap.

Ginsberg should’ve left while she had the chance for ObeyMe to replace her with an equally anti-American hack. Too bad, so sad. Trump will be the one naming her successor, mark my words.

Garland would be an acceptable replacement for Ginsberg if Hillary Clinton were President.

Trump needs to put in solid conservatives to all SC vacancies. PERIOD. The democrats can eat sh**, they are irrelevant. If they whine, we nuke em.

Well put. The only Democrat appointees on Federal courts who have any regard at all for the Constitution are Garland and Jose Cabranes. In a Democrat Presidency, they are the best we can hope for.

Thankfully, we don’t have to worry about that. Chucky Schumer is promising to black any nominee who isn’t “mainstream” but he declines to define that term.
