Hugh Laurie absolutely roasted Donald Trump and the entire Republican party during his Golden Globes acceptance speech tonight.
The actor won the award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Series, Limited Series, or Motion Picture Made for Television for his work in The Night Manager, and he began his speech by saying “Thank you first to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for this amazing honor. I suppose it’s made more amazing by the fact that I’ll be able to say I won this at the last ever Golden Globes…I don’t mean to be gloomy, it’s just that it has the words Hollywood, Foreign and Press in the title.”

I was amazed that there were some people in the audience who weren’t clapping for her remarks. Sadly, they were probably either actors’ spouses or people who will be blackballed by the industry.

Very timely your remark. I was watching the show with my liberal spouse (bless her). At first on a cold Sunday evening I relaxed to just see something light and cheerful. Then came Streep. Ok, she did a moving and well paced presentation .... for a while.
Then she distorted the situation between Donald Trump and a reporter who was - I believe physically handicapped. She mentioned someone sitting on the highest seat and then mocking the person.
Could not she just kept quiet and got on with it? She also snidely threw in the number of "foreign born" personalities at the awards. If you "kick em' all out" she went on, only mixed martial arts etc. would be left. Trump bashing again.
Excuse the rant, FR lets me vent.

She brought up that false charge that Trump made fun of a cripple . . . the same charge that Hitlery used in her campaign. Further convinces me to not watch anything that Meryl Creeps appears in. Also noted the two faggot references to their male “wives.” Just a shameful bunch of asses. And I’m still not sure what the hell Hollywood Foreign Press has to do with Hollywood.
Meryl Streep and Barbara Streisand should be sent to Canada and we’ll still be making good movies. This bitch doesn’t come close to Marlene Dietrich, Audrey Hepburn, Julie Andrews, Ingrid Bergmann and the greats of the past. She needs to take her political rant and stuff it up Hillary’s ass.

A lot of Americans are the result of cousins marrying cousins - including me.
The original settlers of the colonies, especially the upper classes, brought over the old customs, and many of the gentry married their cousins.
My family never left Virginia, from the 1600s to the early 20th century. A lot of them married cousins, for class and wealth reasons. I have a Virginia cousin who married another Virginian in the late 1960s, and learned many years later that the two were distant cousins.
I’m not advocating it - the royal houses of Europe definitely became too inbred; but I recall reading that even the folks on Pitcairn Island didn’t show that much damage from inbreeding. They had a lot of tooth decay, but that was probably from all the sugars in their available staple foods, and poor dental hygiene.
Turned it off. It was terrible. Americans should stop going to their movies, plain & simple.

streep is as subtle as a hand grenade. What people call “wonderful acting” is so over the top I am amazed there is any scenery left after her scenes.
The reason you don’t like her acting is because when she does it, She Is ACTING! Like the Master Thespian of SNL.
