Britain's biggest supermarket chain is cutting the cost of its female razors to match the same product sold to men.
Tesco said it had come under pressure from British lawmaker Paula Sherriff after it was found to charge twice as much for pink disposable twin-blade razors as blue ones.
The products are identical excepts for color and price.
Tesco had defended the pricing by arguing that it sells many more men's razors, making it easier to keep prices low.
Women are just dumb that way, spending twice as much because they like the color. But, leave it to a woman to use government force when all it took was buying the cheaper equivalent.
The razors are identical except for color and price, not cost of production. Tesco implied that scale economies make the larger number of blue (men’s) razors sold les expensive to produce.
Company says it was pressured by an MP.
You are correct.
Duh.....because a lotta women have been using men's razors all their life...and are buying them. A razor is a razor.
We just want to get the job done without bleeding to death.
I’ve never understood the “pink” mark ups. Razors, shampoo, etc.... I’ve used the blue ones (and an extreme off brand gray one I found at Big Lots).
yeah, yeah.....
Implies that the cost difference is in the color of the dye.
Or more probably, the logistics of making short runs to make the lesser selling pony razors.
I'd like to think that most women were smart enough to see that they were the same and buy the blue ones.
You are attempting to move the goalposts. Nobody claimed that it was "a matter of law", rather the claim was that the government was involved.
The original statement in the post by SoFloFreeper that you referenced was:
NONE of this is the business of the government.
Your earlier statement in reply to that was:
Actually, the government was not involved. The change was proposed by a retailer.
I then commented that:
If the retailer has come under pressure from a 'lawmaker' (who is evidently an 'MP') then it can be fairly said that the government was involved.
Your follow-up to my comment was:
no, it was a misguided feminist.
It was not a matter of law
When a government official has put pressure on a retailer, it is undeniable that "the government was involved". The change was clearly not originally motivated at the volition of the retailer, and there does not seem to be any evidence that the retailer would have made the change absent government involvement.
Evidence that Paula Sherriff is an MP:

Evidence that the UK Parliament (and therfore the MPs who constitute that body) are part of the UK 'government' is here:

While it appears likely that Paula Sherriff may indeed be a 'misguided feminist', no evidence has been presented to substantiate any possible claim that Paula Sherriff was not acting in her official capacity when pressuring the retailer. Regardless, it is difficult to see how any MP can credibly disassociate her actions in such a case from her government office and status, unless she would have contacted the retailer anonymously (which clearly she did not do in this case).
Yeah, I bet.
You are claiming extortion is legal in the UK
That is not the case
That is not the case
I made no such claim.
Please do not attempt to put words into my mouth.
Frankly, for me I use the Gillette CustomPlus pivoting dual-blade disposable razor with a good shaving gel. It's a relatively simple razor and works really good for me. I used to use the Schick Xtreme 3 but it's now too pricey for me....
I just always ‘shaved’ and got done with it. I wasn’t in it for the ‘experience.’
I don’t pooh pooh someone spending the extra money if they have it - I just don’t need it. And that is why they still sell the cheap white BIC razors with the yellow-orange covers.
I bought a $25 metal DE razor and buy 100 blades for $8 from Amazon. Unfortunately, the metro-sexuals then claim you need to use a brush made with hairs pulled from the scrotum of a badger, use pre-shave oil, spend 30 minutes prepping your face, etc, etc - ANYTHING to spend as much time and money on themselves as possible. But I use Ivory soap and/or Gillette Foamy. Done in 5 minutes. Works fine.

doesn’t the badger object?
Before you criticize the UK realize that it’s just a matter of time before this happens in blue states here.
Why not just double the price of the blue razors? :-)
