Some small-town residents of Rutland, Vt. are upset at their mayor’s decision to resettle 100 Syrian refugees throughout 2017 in the area.
Rutland Mayor Christopher Louras defended his decision, saying the town’s demographics are declining, and they are having trouble recruiting younger workers. He also thinks refugees will bring cultural diversity.

Louras’s decision sparked outrage among some residents who say they had little say in the mayor’s decision, which would effect them all.

Is it any wonder why there is a drug problem up there? Where are the jobs? We don’t have enough people unemployed, so we need to bring in more from outside the country who have no knowledge of our language. LOL, can the Rutland PD handle the future no go zones? Agggggrrrrrrr.
Gee, didn’t they vote him in? They are getting what they voted for then ans should just accept their poor choice. Elections have consequences. Soon they will be outnumbered and will have a Muslim mayor.
As always liberals are OK if you have to pay, or take the ‘refugees’ or give up your guns or etc etc etc. Theyre not all that intereted in doing it themselves.

I want to share with you the concern my HQ has about holding a public forum. If we open it up to anybody and everybody, all sorts of people will come out of woodwork. Anti-immigrant, anti-anything. They suggest that the forum be invite only but make it as wide as possible. Work with faith leaders, United Way, etc… Perhaps, we could go back to the Congregational Church and continue the conversation there...
That’s a great question. I recall Obamadishu attempting to strong-arm Gov. Abbott of Texas. Correct me if this is wrong, but it sounds like Abbott says, HELL NO. Behind his back, in secret, some of the mayors of places from places like Houston & Austin want the $$$ and are willing to sell out and enjoin with lib federal resettlement policies. (Read post #19- The VT mayor negotiated with the feds in secret.)
That corruption of power needs to stop. The mayors and all other state employees are accountable to their governor and state, not fed-gov. That relationship needs to end of skirting state laws to grab money from fed-gov and flaunt state laws and the wishes of the people of Texas or Vermont or Georgia or Minnesota.
The conflict lies with the fact that state funding (educational, medical, transportation) is necessary to support each invader. This can’t continue unabated in our lands. It demonstrates yet another way of going around the voice of the people of a state, by individual unqualified leftist political hack judges or by the mayors elected to serve a city within a STATE.
The federal government is bribing the mayors of cities within whose states they can not control.

April, 2016, she wrote to the director of the State Refugee Office about her coordination with the mayor to keep the resettlement program secret:
He did share with me that the Governor’s office called him after getting a frantic call from DOL [Vermont Department of Labor] inquiring about the plan to resettle ‘100 Syrians in the next month’ in Rutland.
Again, I cannot emphasize enough the importance of not sharing the information even if it is confidentially. Please respect our process, you will have plenty of opportunity to share and take action once we have met with the stakeholders. At that point we can and will share it widely. It will not serve any one of us well if the community in Rutland learned about it through the grapevine and not directly from us. The above example shows that what people hear and how they interpret it is two different things.
We are to assume that the governor’s office (Shumlim) of Vermont was unaware they were bringing potential unvetted terrorists into his state? Obviously his DOL was not informed.
