Marijuana Goes Mainstream: Newport Cigarettes to Introduce 'Marijuana Cigarettes'
PJ Media ^ | 12-15-2016 | Michael van der Galien

Posted on 12/15/2016 5:44:24 AM PST by Michael van der Galien

When social conservatives told libertarians (of which I am one!) and liberals about their fears that legalization of marijuana would cause a domino effect, they were blasted for supposedly using a 'slippery slope' argument. 'Stop nagging,' we told those conservatives, 'it won't be that bad! It's just that people who use marijuana right now won't be punished for it. Won't that be a considerable improvement?'

Well, perhaps not so much:

Newport Cigarettes, one of the world’s most popular cigarette brands, announced today that they will join the marijuana legalization trend and start producing marijuana cigarettes. Reynolds American Inc. Chief Marketing Executive Lawrence Harrison said in an interview, reports OrganicAndHealthy.org, that Newport has monitored the marijuana market for quite some time. Once the soft drugs was legalized in Washington and Colorado, the cigarette company decided to go all in and start selling marijuana cigarettes.

And here's the kicker: although advertising for tobacco products is illegal nowadays, the company has 'set aside an enormous $7 billion advertising budget to market the new “Newport Nirvana” brand.' Newport is currently in negotiations with 'major networks and publishers' to 'market' the product to their audiences. In fact, Newport has already started advertising on billboards and in magazines in both Colorado and Washington.

The New Testament Greek word translated “sorcery” in this context is pharmakeia, which is the source of our English word pharmacy. At the time, the derivative word “sorcerer” primarily meant one who practiced/indulged in sorcery... e.g. sold or used potions or drugs, often in the context of a practitioner of the occult, so the OP is not that far off base.

I'm seeing Greek as pharmakoi with the context usage being those who practiced "magic", sorcery and the use of potions (drugs) to bring others into a stupefied (therefore controllable) state. I would think it would refer to the leaders or producers (drug cartels) rather than the hapless end user. IOW the deceivers rather than the deceived.

Don’t hold your breath waiting for an answer. He posts excerpts from his blog and does not answer questions. Just like “IBT Editorial Writer”:

Ya, skunk weed or the really good stuff smells like pinesol. Your mileage/smileage may vary. I quit some time ago. Just isn’t a good idea to put smoke in your lungs. Might try cooking with some if it becomes legal.

I work with a guy who claims to be a Christian, doesn't own a bible, promotes weed and calls The Lord a dealer for changing water into wine.

Sorcery really fries your brain.

RJ&Company should consider the interaction of menthol and THC. Has it been assessed?

Are you volunteering to be a trials test subject?

If you will remember, back in the mid 1970s it was believed marjuana was eventually going to be legalized so many names of various grades of mj were registered as trademarks.

And yet Everclear @ 190 proof is available in 34 states. You cannot regulate stupid. There are more ways to poisons and kill oneself than many think possible. Add extremely "high" THC levels to the list.

PS I believe it's been scientifically demonstrated that one cannot actually OD on THC, but it's more than possible to become so incapacitated that one loses the ability to perhaps avoid falling into a puddle and drowning.

We all have SOMETHING under the sink with a skull and crossbones on it. I have a small package containing brass hinges for a jewelry box I was making. It bears the label “Contains materials known to the State of California to cause cancer!”. Really? Hinges? I have had enough foolishness. You are either for smaller less intrusive gummint or not. In the early days of FreeRepublic some one posted they had a picture of the construction site of the New York City World’s Fair. 1961 I believe. It showed a shed with the sign “Explosives” and was secured with a cheap Woolworth’s padlock.

We have had enough of some people demanding laws restricting what other people can do. The mistake we made was not in lack of security it was allowing folks like Bill Ayres to not only get away with it but to become a celebrity for having done so. We don’t need a society with more laws we need a society that shuns and shames and won’t tolerate evil.

All the cigarette companies are prepared for this eventuality. Kind of funny to call Newport one of the most popular brands, but I guess they’re confident in the direction the laws are taking.

The illegal weed growers promoting legalization are going to find themselves out of business when cigarette companies move in and take over their markets with better/cheaper weed. Ha.
