Regarding Mattis as head of DoD - I think that he is exactly the right guy to deter any potential enemies from messing with us. He will build up our military in a way that leads to LOTS more teeth and not so much tail - and no one is going to want to deal with those teeth, not from a guy who can’t spell “lose.” On the Israel issue - which I care about a LOT - Mattis won’t be making foreign policy. He also has a great deal of respect for the Israeli military, and strikes me as a guy who will listen to someone with whom he disagrees - he is a very studious person, and the very object of studying is to learn what you don’t know.

FYI, there isn’t EVER going to be a 2-state solution. The Pallies can NEVER compromise away their belief that Israel doesn’t even have the right to exist, and without that there is no agreement on anything of substance, let alone enough trust in Israel to allow them to be independent. Hunter never once differentiated his ‘deport em all’ stance between border jumpers or visa jumpers. He is the author of the True Enforcement Immigration bill which had been introduced multiple times. It deals with ALL illegals.

The last enforcement only immigration bill was HR 4437 in 2005. It passed the House only to be killed by the Bush administration. Hunter's main hobby horse has been the fence. This is not to belittle his stance on illegal aliens or the need for border security. His big accomplishment was getting the 11 mile fence built between San Diego and Mexico. It had a remarkable salutary effect on crime in San Diego and the border area south of the city.

Tom Tancredo wrote and spoke eloquently and presciently on immigration. His book, In Mortal Danger: The Battle for America's Border and Security provided a compelling case for securing our borders. He wrote numerous articles on immigration and its impact on this country. He called for a reduction (read moratorium) on legal immigration. He founded the Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus and headed it for 8 years. Tom was the leader in the House on immigration issues. It was not even close.

Tom graciously wrote a fund raising letter for my immigration group. I spent almost ten years as part of an immigration organization that lobbies on the Hill. I got to know all the players on a personal basis. I have worked with Steve King on immigration issues. He appeared on one of our sponsored panels at CPAC on immigration. Steve has sponsored many bills on immigration issues including birthright citizenship.

Tancredo was the leader in the House on immigration. It is why he founded the Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus building if from less than a dozen Congressmen to well over 100.

Most of Hunter's list of bills you provided he co-sponsored. Without researching it, I am sure many of these same bills were co-sponsored by Tancredo as well during his time in the House--1999 to 2009.

You probably know by now, but just in case you didn’t see, it was Flynn’s son who was fired.

Yes, on many he was cosponsor. But he was also the architect who wrote and sponsored the Illegal Immigration Control Act of 1995 and the TRUE Enforcement Act of 2005 (cosponsored by Tom). These are the gold standards of not only border enforcement, but deportations, employment verification, VISA abuse corrections, anchor babies, and many other items to end illegal immigration. Both were killed off by GOP led congresses.

You can compare Hunters 2006 True Enforcement bill which had 47 cosponsors with the only comparable sponsored legislation by Tancredo in 2007 - The Overdue Immigration Reform Act of 2007 (w/ no cosponsors). Then answer who was more serious.

The Illegal Immigration Control Act of 1995 and the True Enforcement Act of 2005 were never passed in the House. How can they be the gold standard?

H R 4437 was passed in the House. it was sponsored by James Sensenbrenner. It was co-sponsored by Pete King. This was the last serious enforcement only bill.

It passed in the house because it was weak tea. Of course, the Senate didn’t even bother. Certainly not the gold standard. Just the opening language about letting Chertoff the stooge decide how to secure the border.

Hunter’s bill is the Gold Standard. Tanc’s gets the silver, the this turd gets a C-. A glorified request for a study handed to an administration that had no desire to stop illegal immigration.
