Donald Trump is tapping Gen. John Kelly to run the Department of Homeland Security, CBS News confirms.
The final request and acceptance, sources told CBS’ Major Garrett, occurred while Kelly was traveling in Europe. His pick for DHS secretary will be announced by the transition staff in the coming days.
Kelly is the third general tapped by the president-elect, joining Gen. James Mattis, Mr. Trump’s pick to become the next secretary of Defense, and Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, Mr. Trump’s incoming national security advisor.
Like Mattis, Kelly is a Marine with a reputation for bluntness.

I couldn't agree more. The last thing we needed after 9/11 was another humongous federal bureaucracy to watch over us. You're absolutely right. Get the right and left hands working together and we'll be much better off!

I was initially opposed to Bolton because of his connections to the Bushes, but his experience, his skills, his desire to create a culture war in the State department tell me that he would be the strongest player to put in that job, much stronger than any of the politicians they’ve discussed.

"Donald Trump is taking advice from President Obama about his cabinet appointments, the president-elect revealed on Wednesday.
“We have a really good chemistry together. I really like him as a person,” Trump told NBC’s Matt Lauer on the “Today” show.
Asked if he talked to the president about possible appointments, Trump responded: “I have asked him what he would think of this one and that one. We have a very good dialogue.”
He continued to kvell: “I do like him. I love getting his ideas. I take his recommendations very seriously. There are some people I will be appointing and I have appointed that he thought very highly of that person.”
I cannot imagine Trump seriously taking advice from such a disgusting and inept imposter posing as our president for the last 8 years. Is he just playing with us?
If that happened, I might be ok with it. Some of these agencies are set up so the Secretary trots around the globe drinking with dictators, but the deputy director controls the department. If that were the case it could work out well.
