Several Democratic members of the New York congressional delegation think President-elect Donald Trump should pay for his own security costs if his family chooses to maintain two residences while he's in the White House.
In a letter Monday to New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, six Democrats representing various New York City boroughs said Trump should pick up the tab for the security costs of living in Washington and Manhattan.
Also Monday, de Blasio said he’s asking the Obama administration to reimburse New York $35 million for Trump’s security costs through Inauguration Day on Jan. 20. He specifically requested House and Senate leaders to include the funds in an upcoming government spending bill expected to be considered in Congress this week.

They are, however, quite content to pick up the tab for the security costs imposed by countless illegal immigrants within city limits.
I agree. They do need to move to DC just for security, practicality reasons. I don’t like the thought of him flying back and forth.

All former presidents should pay for their own security. All are wealthy enough to do so, even the Clintons when he left office. It should be serious candidates and the current President only having government paid security for as part the job. They leave office they have a year to transition to private security.
The Constitution should be amended so that residents of a state can form their own.

Plus, ALL President-Elect’s are afforded Secret Service protection. Why is the City of NY or the State of NY so upset about nothing.
Sounds to me like this would not be an issue if the president-elect were a DEMOCRAT.

An alternative: charge the ones really responsible for the security costs — i.e. violent protestors, internet trolls making threats, etc.
It could work like a hybrid of a toll bridge and parking tickets. You want to protest in front of Trump Tower, or the White House — permit (toll) = $50.00. Fine for vandalism or violence at the protest = $500.00 (plus all the usual legal penalties). You write a death threat on twitter — fine = $500.00 (plus cost of the USSS investigation). And so on, and so forth.
If it weren’t for such threats, the security requirements would be minimal. Those posing the threats should pay the tab.
Hey Cristina, how about you get one of your Congress critters to introduce a bill to curtail Trump’s security coverage. See how far that gets. Otherwise, just stifle yourself.
