~ Happy Thanksgiving 2016!! ~
GOD BLESS AND WATCH OVER THEM, WHEREVER THEY SERVE
Canteen Mission Statement
Showing support and boosting the morale of our military and our allies' military and family members of the above. Honoring those who have served before.
Abraham Lincoln's Thanksgiving Proclamation
Washington, D.C. October 3, 1863
By the President of the United States of America.
The year that is drawing towards its close, has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added, which are of so extraordinary a nature, that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever watchful providence of Almighty God. In the midst of a civil war of unequaled magnitude and severity, which has sometimes seemed to foreign States to invite and to provoke their aggression, peace has been preserved with all nations, order has been maintained, the laws have been respected and obeyed, and harmony has prevailed everywhere except in the theatre of military conflict; while that theatre has been greatly contracted by the advancing armies and navies of the Union. Needful diversions of wealth and of strength from the fields of peaceful industry to the national defence, have not arrested the plough, the shuttle or the ship; the axe has enlarged the borders of our settlements, and the mines, as well of iron and coal as of the precious metals, have yielded even more abundantly than heretofore. Population has steadily increased, notwithstanding the waste that has been made in the camp, the siege and the battle-field; and the country, rejoicing in the consiousness of augmented strength and vigor, is permitted to expect continuance of years with large increase of freedom.
No human counsel hath devised nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy. It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently and gratefully acknowledged as with one heart and one voice by the whole American People.
I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens. And I recommend to them that while offering up the ascriptions justly due to Him for such singular deliverances and blessings, they do also, with humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience, commend to His tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty Hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquillity and Union.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the United States to be affixed.
Done at the City of Washington, this Third day of October, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, and of the Independence of the Unites States the Eighty-eighth.
By the President: Abraham Lincoln
Please remember that The Canteen is here to support and entertain our troops and veterans and their families, and is family friendly.

TO THE
FR CANTEEN
Good morning, Everyone.
Good morning to our
AWESOME
Military, our Allies, and their families.
Well, after a long wait, I did get stuffed yesterday.
Young son decided to try doing a smoked turkey,
along with a roasted one, this year, so they planned
a late dinner to go along with the Redskins game.
I must say, both turkeys were very good,
but his smoked one was a-maz-ing; best of the two.
Looks like next year it'll be two smoked turkeys!
Avoid Black Friday!
Remember, the Canteen is ALWAYS
So, come on in and sit for a while.
There's always plenty of coffee, tea;
pancakes, conversation, silliness,
and plain old BS
REMEMBER THEM
DEFENDERS OF FREEDOM

So we argued about how long to cook the bird. Mrs. henkster said 4 1/2 hours. I said four. We compromised by agreeing to 4 1/2...Happy Thanksgiving henky ((HUGS))
I see you learned how to compromised very well.
Hope everything was a success.

Happy Thanksgiving Ma ((HUGS))
I saw where you said you had a lot of leftover from dinner. Can you make turkey/rice soup? You can actually freeze that.
Sadly, there wasn’t enough leftover turkey to make soup. However, young son wants to smoke another turkey, so I will buy one when he’s ready, and maybe there’ll be enough left for turkey/rice soup, which him and hubby both request after the holidays.

Well, you know we had an adventurous day on Wednesday. It reminded me of the Dana Perino book about her dog Jasper. You probably read about her husband's dealings with the Park Service regards to the leash law.
Well, apparently there were some horse riders out at the lake and the animal control guys said I needed to put Bo on a leash. They kept driving back and fourth on the lake road while Bo and I were just doing the normal thing.
Yesterday wasn't quite so bad. No horse riders and no dog catchers. So, I was able to let Bo do his thing. He did find his second gopher of the season out on the lake bridge. He didn't have to dig for it.
We've been enjoying the supper Susie brought down. We're into day 2 of the turkey. I think we will start on the frozen dinners tomorrow.
Oh and BTW here's more about Dana's husband's dealings with the Park Service on the leash law.

Hai, yeppers - turkey and football. Rainstorm took out our power around 8pm while watching Steelers/Colt’s game, chatted by candle light then all went to bed. Power back on around 1am.

Today if you'd try it the cost is like $750,000 - you read that right. You have to have that in assets so you don't become a burden; however if you tried to illegally enter Oz you'd be sent to a camp on an offshore island.
I was sponsored with a job only because there were no pilots willing to live out in the bush (as if Charleville was in the bush).
