Say what you will about Donny Deutsch, but the man-about-Manhattan and the Hamptons moves in the Trump social circle and is well-connected there.
So attention must be paid to Deutschs declaration on todays With All Due Respect. Asked by Mark Halperin whether the talk about Romney being considered for Secretary of State is real, whether Romney might end up with the job, Deutsch responded: somebody very, very, very high up in the inner [Trump] circle yesterday told me it was very, very real, and that this person was very excited about it.

Personally, I don't think President-elect Trump should consider Romney for
any position in his administration unless Romney is willing to apologize for and formally repudiate his previous slanderous smears regarding Trump.
If Mitt Romney is a big enough man to sincerely apologize for his shameful behavior, I'd consider finding a place for him in my administration if I was Donald Trump. If not, then "don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out, Mitt"...

What does Romney want out of this?

I would never trust him at this point. I trust Donald’s instincts but this is playing with fire. Although not the same level this reminds me of Reagan letting hw bush and his ilk into his administration

Mormons believe in open borders/Amnesty because American Indians are really Jewish, or something. It's ideological to be proAmnesty for Mormons.
Mormon Mitt is a terrible choice for SoS. Who cares if he did the Olympics.

Thank you for reminding us we are discussing Mr Romneycare, who sent his aides to help the White House with Obamacare, and who destroyed all his hard drives after he left the Governor’s office.
Also: “Mormons believe in open borders/Amnesty because American Indians are really Jewish, or something. It’s ideological to be proAmnesty for Mormons, which is why Mitt and McMullin and friends like David French (he ran “evangelicals for Mitt”) all hate Donald Trump.
I hope Trump realizes he’s up against a religious problem with Mitt Romney, something that goes beyond policy positions.

This is legit. I don't know if Romney would make a great SOS, but if Trump thinks so, I will trust his judgment. I think something that everyone here is forgetting is Romney's work with the Olympics. Evidently he did a masterful job and was obviously working with many people from around the world. That may be 1 thing that Trump likes. I think Trump also appreciates his business acumen. Being a wealthy businessman himself and not likely to ever run for POTUS again, Romney would (hopefully) not be selling access and favors to foreign bidders and donors like Hillary Clinton was. Perhaps Trump feels he could trust Romney implicitly to never sell out US interests as Clinton did.
It may seem like a very odd pick in light of what Romney said a few months ago, as we know that Trump highly values loyalty. If he thinks that Romney is indeed the best man for the job and Trump offers him the job despite how Romney treated him, that would elevate my opinion of Trump even more. Of course, Romney would have to be 100% on board with Trump's worldview and be a good soldier.

I would be ok with Romney. He’s smart, works hard, has the right temperament for SOS. But can he honestly tow the Trump line without his fingers crossed?
To: marktwain
Because the state department is full of NWO types, and needs to be cleaned out, as they will actively do stuff contrary to what the country needs. Mitt is also a NWO guy, so this particular job is not a good way to use him.
I could live with him being the Head of Veteran’s affairs or something like that. All the globalists need to be ousted from the agencies that deal with anything that might help them bring down the USA.

Romney is far better than Bolton. Bolton picks fights. He can’t negotiate. I agree that Romney would need to show a tougher side than he has shown so far. But Trump needs to have someone walk around to the friends, England, Canada, Australia, Japan and make sure we are Ok. Then he needs to negotiate with EU, Mexico, Singapore and others who are semi-friends. If Trump says “as long as you always remember America first. And by that I mean American worker first then this thing can work.” Romney is smart and hard working. He can do it. And Trump needs to run the country.
