Romney is far better than Bolton. Bolton picks fights. He can’t negotiate. I agree that Romney would need to show a tougher side than he has shown so far. But Trump needs to have someone walk around to the friends, England, Canada, Australia, Japan and make sure we are Ok. Then he needs to negotiate with EU, Mexico, Singapore and others who are semi-friends. If Trump says “as long as you always remember America first. And by that I mean American worker first then this thing can work.” Romney is smart and hard working. He can do it. And Trump needs to run the country.

I’m aware of Bolton’s prickly nature and not advocating him for the position. I’m just pointing out that I would expect Trump to go for “balls” in a SOS, and whatever else one can say about Bolton, he is not lacking in that department. He just came immediately to mind as a possible choice. Romney is sharp, but it’s never sat well with me that he backed off 0bama when he had him down with the presidency at stake. As much as it can be argued that a Bolton is too aggressive, I wonder if Romney lacks the killer instinct to roll an opponent when necessary.
