Eric Holder: "Abolish The Electoral College"
Real Clear Politics ^ | November 12, 2016 | Ian Schwartz

Posted on 11/12/2016 6:50:03 AM PST by C19fan

Former Attorney General Eric Holder joins Bill Maher to discuss the aftermath of Donald Trump's election and calls for the abolition of the Electoral College.

Holder said the U.S. should elect presidents via popular vote instead of through electoral votes. The former attorney general said there is a simple solution, "we have to just abolish the electoral college."

I remember, not so long ago, Democrats were saying that they don’t see Republicans being able to win for a long time.

The Electoral College is federalism. The states would never have signed on to the Constitution if they did not have the protections they wanted.

The biggest danger to the Electoral College is the ongoing National Popular Vote

The National Popular Vote bill would guarantee the Presidency to the candidate who receives the most popular votes nationwide (i.e., all 50 states and the District of Columbia). It has been enacted into law in 11 states with 165 electoral votes, and will take effect when enacted by states with 105 more electoral votes. The bill has passed one chamber in 12 additional states with 96 electoral votes. Most recently, the bill was passed by a bipartisan 40–16 vote in the Republican-controlled Arizona House, 28–18 in Republican-controlled Oklahoma Senate, 57–4 in Republican-controlled New York Senate, and 37–21 in Democratic-controlled Oregon House.

Here is the way I look at it: I look at who is for, and who is against this abolishment of the Electoral College.

It is OVERWHELMINGLY liberal moonbats and people like Eric Holder. I won’t be on the same side on any issue whatsoever with them, so this makes it easy, even though I have taken the time over the years to educate myself on what the Electoral College is, how it works, and why it was put in place.

This just makes it an easy binary decision for me.

We lost, change the rules.

Item #2 in the Liberal Handbook.

(Item #1 is, "It's always someone else's fault.")

Actually, it is the cities that hold the population and can control vote totals in the precincts necessary to throw the election.

Were there a popular vote requirement to win, the only honest for a rural candidate to win were if an earth quake or a nuclear device destroyed at least two major cities.

The blame for all the violent protests should be placed on the msm. They promised the people Hellary would win. Every day, 24/7/365, they promised. The sheeple were so brainwashed and followed the almighty talking heads but their little make believe world came crashing down.

Folks, that’s how communism is so easily created. Pay attention and be aware. The brainwashing can happen in such a short period of time.

"..Undereducated people such as Eric Holder fail to understand that the Electoral College is there to protect them from tyranny..."

This is true of many liberals, but not him. He probably understands full well that it was put in place to protect citizens from a tyrannical government, which is why he hates it.

On the other hand, I believe he is one of those jackasses that trots out the 3/5 Compromise of 1787 as evidence of institutional racism against blacks, when the compromise is really evidence of just the opposite, that there were people in the federal government who were trying to eradicate slavery.

The quotation you’re looking for is from Chesterton’s 1929 book, The Thing, in the chapter entitled, “The Drift from Domesticity”:

In the matter of reforming things, as distinct from deforming them, there is one plain and simple principle; a principle which will probably be called a paradox. There exists in such a case a certain institution or law; let us say, for the sake of simplicity, a fence or gate erected across a road. The more modern type of reformer goes gaily up to it and says, “I don’t see the use of this; let us clear it away.” To which the more intelligent type of reformer will do well to answer: “If you don’t see the use of it, I certainly won’t let you clear it away. Go away and think. Then, when you can come back and tell me that you do see the use of it, I may allow you to destroy it.

Or briefly,

"Put simply, don’t ever take a fence down until you know the reason why it was put up." Nice reference at http://abovethelaw.com/2014/01/the-fallacy-of-chestertons-fence/.

I learned something new here today. Thanks C19fan and FR.

Any state that wants to do so is free to change its method of choosing electors any time it decides to. The selection of electors is left entirely in the hands of the states.

What he really meant is: abolish the electoral college so we only have to get the illegal aliens in California and we always win.

Let’s face it, getting rid of the electoral college just means that Mexico rules America.
