Donald Trump's transition team is preparing for the billionaire businessman to take over as commander in chief, they're ruffling a few feathers along the way.
Scientific American reports Trump has selected climate change critic, Myron Ebell, to lead his Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) transition team.
Ebell, who's the director of the Center for Energy and Environment at the conservative Competitive Enterprise Institute, has been described by Newsweek as a fierce opponent of climate change, which the publisher calls entirely at odds with scientific consensus.
David Goldston, a policy analyst at the Natural Resources Defense Council Action Fund, explained that Ebell's disbelief in climate change would utterly destroy any environmental advances made by the Obama administration:
The Competitive Enterprise [Ebell's employer] Institute has done everything it can politically and through litigation to block any forward movement on climate and to try to harass anybody who is trying to get forward movement.
Trump's controversial pick should come to no surprise, given his harsh stance on climate change:
The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive. Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 6, 2012
Give me clean, beautiful and healthy air - not the same old climate change (global warming) bullshit! I am tired of hearing this nonsense. Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 29, 2014
The backlash Trump's receiving from the left is expected, but some are taking it a step further by petitioning for Ebell to not lead the EPA transition team.
It reads, in part:
Donald Trump has chosen a leading climate skeptic to head the EPA transition. Do not let a man who denies science in the name of profit lead the nation in environmental protection.
The petition needs 100,000 signatures in order to get a response from the White House; it has a mere 1,055 so far.
Other Democrats on social media were just as upset:
Fuck, Trump picks Exxon funded climate denier, Myron Ebell, to head EPA transition https://t.co/UAtF2x1F0a Naadir Jeewa (@randomvariable) November 9, 2016
Myron Ebell, Trumps pick to lead the EPA, is a lobbyist for fossil fuel industry. Think the systems rigged? Ask whos doing the rigging. Darcy James Argue (@darcyjamesargue) November 10, 2016
So it begins. Trumps transition man for the EPA is @myronebell who is one of the biggest climate skeptics around. Good job America. Akash Patel (@ab_patel9) November 9, 2016
Senior politics editor of The Huffington Post, Sam Stein, summed up his thoughts on Trump's controversial pick:
FWIW. we have probably lost the battle against climate change tonight Sam Stein (@samsteinhp) November 9, 2016
Though Newsweek notes Ebell leading the EPA transition team doesn't mean he will definitely have a job within a Trump EPA, his position is undoubtedly a sign of what's to come.
The Orcs-in-suits want The Donald's guts in a Hefty Bag for this, alone. Let's pray DJT will have the stones to keep doing what needs to be done.
And just as important, to keep un-doing what needs to be un-done.
Thwack! LOL
tired of winning yet?
“Disbelieves in climate change.”
Nonsense. The climate has been changing since the earth was created and still will.
This means, of course again in weaselly code words, disbelieves in the latest pseudoscience about climate change.
Excellent.
Build the Wall and Tear Down the EPA
Yeah, love the “Disbelieves”. Perhaps he “Disbelieves” in the Easter Bunny, and Santa Claus too
But, but it’s settled science...isn’t it????
Maybe just MAYBE, Trump is more conservative than we knew!!! PRAYERS.
Sanity rules.
omg!
I would die if he appointed Dr. Willie Soon to a position.
What has he got to lose?!
He already knows that the Washington establishment is NOT his friend Never will be. The Media is not his friend and every bedwetting safe space seeking activist wannabe liberal has made themselves his enemy already. That is not going to change Ever. They Are going to attack him Over and Over and Over again.
So what difference does it make to Donald J Trump if they say bad things about him and rampage in the streets. He needs to DO what he Promise to do.
Get On With It!
This is a Great Start!
Donald said we’d have so many victories we’d get tired of winning!
People thought that was a bunch of Donald puffery. But Donald knew something.
Namely, there is SUCH a pile of 8-balls that America has accumulated and that Donald will try to chuck out, that the very LIST of them would be tedious to tears.
Our lefties had better count their curses and be ready to lose every one... Yuge list.
Why couldn’t America have had Donald a lot sooner? Dog Donald’s cat, he cares... because God cared...
But yes this is spiritual. People had to pray like their life depended on it, which it now did with Hillary on the horizon. And God smiled at the new humility, and sent the blessing.
Wow.....just wow! Where are all #nevertrump people saying Trump wasn’t serious.....oh yeah at those other 2 sites. One saying it is a conservative site and the other.....is it even back online yet?
It’s just good SENSE.
Donald thinks actions through to consequences.
I am all for some form of an EPA...to address legitimate air quality concerns caused from criteria pollutants that do affect health. Every aspect of CO2/Climate Change needs to be abolished out of the gate.
Beechen....
Somehow all this creeping waterway nannying has to be reigned in.
The entire “navigable waterways” needs to be put down as well...
And the Flat Earth Society hangs their heads and weep.
Is a government bureau the answer to everything, though... just devil’s advocate here. If we can put something that is able to address true pollutant issues as well as this bloated agency, in a phone booth — we ought to.
