In total, 451,930 FPL customers in Florida have lost power at some point Thursday into Friday.

I have a construction project. Just joking. I think we are in the same age group?
I was attacked on this site for typing that the media and government agencies were lying , they were predicting a catastrophe of monumental proportions, 140 mph winds at landfall etc. I said it was not going to be 140mph but much mush less, and this 46 mph proves it , it's nothing just like a thunderstorm 46 mph doesn't equal a catastrophe. the media is the enemy and one of the few things you really have to fear is the media
My rule of thumb: If the Gov’t says it’s sunny outside and the media hypes it, get your umbrella and go outside to check it. Two years ago they told us we would have a warmer than usual winter with little snowfall. I called the local radio talk show and told everyone to buy TWO snow shovels as we will wear one down to the handles. I was correct. That winter didn’t want to quit until late March.
They haven’t had the storm surge yet. They’re still predicting bad flooding from Daytona northward.
btw - a 107mph gust was clocked at Cape Canaveral
There was another guy who lived through hurricanes down there that made a joke on the Matthew thread. People pounced on him and told him not to joke about this .
He said this was hyped up.
Yeah they pounced on me too because I said this mathew wasn’t going to be as bad as the media is making it out to be . It’s the media that’s the problem .these morons are being controlled by the media like puppets and they get angry at me for pointing out the problem which is the media and that we shouldn’t listen to the media. the media waste our time and distract us from real problems like the government
All the major wind stayed off shore.
Yeah
Fort Pierce 22/43
Melbourne 38/51
Sanford 33/54
Orlando 28/40
And here in Lakeland 18/26
Yes we are in Texas. We pooled our family resources this spring and my son, who lives about ten miles away, put in a whole house generator system in. Even though we haven’t had any hurricanes this year, his system has come on several times already, only ran max of 15 minutes though. But we at least know it works! Will be a lot easier on our family than fighting the YUGE traffic problems during evac.
Those have been the highest winds.
The media predicted a catastrophe of historical proportions 140mph winds hitting florida and it was supposed to have hit last night at 9 pm and killed many in areas that nothing hapened in those areas already it’s over there nothing . so far it’s just been a little wind and rain, like a little thunderstorm. so already they are caught in a lie. big difference from 140 mph winds sustained and what is going on now as I predicted it wouldn’t be the catastrope the media said it would be.
“Hurricane Hunter reporting 945MB, not the sub 920 that was predicted. Daytona current winds @ 46mph.
Here is the media with its overhyped hsyteria:

Fox News Anchor: ‘You and Everyone You Know Are Dead, and Your Kids Die, Too.’ [HURRICANE MATTHEW]
The self-important buffoons just aren't happy when they have spare time to actually report news.
Actually, it might be a good thing if most people are gone while they clean up and restore power. Then there's the thing they're ignoring or that hasn't occurred to anyone. Zika virus just might be a real threat in these conditions. The SE is going to be real soggy after this. It's perfect weather for spreading insect-borne diseases.
how many storms does it take till they start burying lines underground?
**************
Transmission and distribution lines are only one part of the
electric generation and distribution system.
We’re in Fort Lauderdale and the storm was a big nothing here. Very little wind and no power loss. I would imagine Palm Beach experienced the same.
The storm turned a little eastward, so the initial wind speeds predicted haven’t materialized. They also predicted a big storm surge. Water/flooding kills many more than wind.
Daytona hasn’t experienced the back side of the eyewall yet & won’t for a few more hours.
I think it’s premature to downplay all the dangers of this storm.
Only the older neighborhoods in our town have above ground power lines and branches to the homes.
Everything since the early 80’s in underground.
But the area still has the above ground feeder lines out on the main roads.
When a tree or car takes out one of those poles a good bit of the city goes dark. The good thing is power is back up pretty quick.
TV news, whether it's weather, politics, international affairs, sports shenanigans, law enforcement, whatever, is now all high drama, theater and play-acting by glib TV "stars" in the relentless chase for ratings and advertising dollars.

I’m following the other thread and saw the back and forth.
Some folks seem a bit touchy about joking around or playing down the impending doom.
I prepare for the impending doom - with stuff I’ll use if it doesn’t show up - and joke about the situation.
I hate the “Oh woe is me” crowd.
I understand that, thank you.
the media waste our time and distract us from real problems like the government
Needs to be repeated until everyone gets it.
