Putting convicted criminals to death is an issue Sen. Tim Kaine said he had to “grapple” with when he served as governor of Virginia. Kaine chose the death penalty, not abortion, as the issue that posed the biggest conflict with his Roman Catholic faith.

“For me, the hardest struggle in my faith life was, the Catholic Church is against the death penalty and so am I,” Kaine said at Tuesday night’s debate. “But I was governor of a state, and the state law said that there was a death penalty for crimes if the jury determined them to be heinous. And so I had to grapple with that.” …

Wants to show how wonderful he is. Take a stand against it and then call yourself a leader.

For kaine, killing babies is easy. Killing killers, no so much.

So, saving the life of a guilty criminal is more important than saving the life of an innocent child?

Kaine is morally conflicted about executing murderers but he’s made peace with abortion.

Not something the Church condones.

“...Putting to death a hardened criminal was something I had to grabble with. Murdering a baby, though, that wasn’t difficult at all...”

Then Gov. Kaine had a GOP legislature. With his beliefs in forced death, you'd think he could have made some changes to bring Virginia's abortion laws closer to his so-called Catholic beliefs.

I smell another democrat hypocrite.

Isn’t abortion a death penalty?

The Bible offers much justification for the death penalty and absolutely no justification of abortion.....He obviously is not utilizing it in his guidance.

But, he seems to love muslims who think they should kill all infidels. I think he just sides with evil instinctively like most leftists.

Saw this a few days ago - maybe on Drudge? Can’t remember. Anyways, reminded me of Ted Kennedy and Joe Biden.

Kaine is a faithful Catholic, but opposes some church edicts

Actually, it makes sense. Knowing his partner in crime was going to be Hillary, he stands a good chance of engaging in high treason, punishable by death. She isn’t going to take the fall so he would be smart to outlaw capital punishment now, in case he is yoked with the blame.

A common comment from cultural Christian Progressives. I had a Methodist pastor who would say that you can’t be against abortion if you are in favor of the death penalty.

I told that’s like saying that a person who would shoot a rabid dog is a hypocrite for not drowning puppies.

It’s a death, but for it to be a penalty requires it to be a punishment for a crime, so it’s a murder on top of that.
