The French ban on the burkini is threatening to turn into a farce as police officers armed with pepper spray and batons marched onto a beach today and ordered a woman to strip off.
Four burly cops stood over the middle-aged woman, who had been quietly sunbathing on the Promenade des Anglais beach in Nice - yards from the scene of the Bastille Day lorry attack - and watched her take off a Muslim-style garment which protected her modesty.
It is thought the woman was given a warning about the dress code on the beach and was handed an on-the-spot fine.
Another young Muslim mother was ordered off the beach at Cannes and fined for simply wearing a headscarf.
Three armed officers pointed a pepper spray canister in the 34-year-old's face and told her she was in breach of a new rule outlawing swimming costumes that cover the entire body.
She said the 'racist' officers simply wanted to humiliate her in front of her children and other family members, even though she was not even wearing a burkini.

You have to draw the line.
If you don’t folks will waltz onto the beach wearing a bomb vest.
They’re cracking down on Islamic fundamentalist dress attire. As I have said elsewhere, normally I’d agree with you. This is not a normal time.
If someone is flouting the new law, it causes them to be a terrorist suspect, and gives the police every right to challenge and vet the individual.
I get the impression this write over-played the strip down part. I doubt the police ordered her to strip naked, unless her clothing could have hidden something. And taking her word for anything, sorry, not happening...
Lesson: Don’t break the new law.
There’s a reason.
How can you “sunbathe” when everything is covered except your face, hands and feet?
Do sharks eat mooselims?
All due respect to your wife and others.
It’s a shame innocent people have to put up with this. I don’t honestly like it.
Here’s the alternative.

They'll probably blow something up. Maybe themselves.
More than likely, you are right and it is understandable considering what Nice just went through. Political correctness got us to this point, so the reaction shouldn’t be unexpected. Still, it bothers me.
My thoughts exactly.
Yep, if you allow this, pretty soon the Muslim men will show up and start attacking women who aren’t fully covered on the beach. They won’t wait for Sharia law to be adopted in a country; they intend to impose it themselves by force.
Muslim-style garment which protected her modesty...
American Translation: So their prostitute seeing, sick, perverted, insanely jealous husbands dont beat the #### out of them when they get home.
Who protects her modesty when she gets raped and needs 15 male witnesses, a video of the event, a signed confession, and proof that she was covered from head to toe before the rape occurred or else she gets stoned.
It should. I don’t like it either.
When I look at what’s happening across Europe, I realize this woman’s pain is nothing.
She wasn’t blown to bits
She wasn’t raped
Her family members weren’t dismembered
She’s not a child that has to wear a temporary “NO” tatoo at the public pool, meaning don’t rape me
Her family vehicle wasn’t incinerated in front of her home
She didn’t have her throat slit in public
She didn’t have any of the other things happen to her, that her fellow travelers have been perpetrating across Europe.
So I’m having a hard time working up one tear for her.
And honestly, I wish it weren’t like this.
The Israelis, various U.S. governments, many politicians, many business people, and others have urged the Arab world to join us in the 21st Century. Instead they refuse and remain in the 6th century.
That’s not your fault.
It’s not mine.
It is theirs.
“Four burly cops stood over the middle-aged woman, who had been quietly sunbathing on the Promenade des Anglais beach in Nice”
How do you sunbathe under a tarp?
throw one in and wait to see what happens.
You would think that Muslims would make white/tan burkas, instead of black. Seems like common sense being that they generally live in the hottest region on earth.
“however, some women wear a headscarf for medical reasons”
Then they can get a doctor’s note.
The rule of not being allowed to cover up seems bizarre.
What’s the point of “sunbathing” when you’re totally covered up?
I’m sure the woman could have just packed up and left the beach...
“four burly cops stood over the middle-aged woman”.......
Isn’t that fat profiling?

Trying to figure out a way to apply my attire-related battle cry to this story:
Down with hotpants!
From what I have seen of the ugly shapes of many people in bikinis on U.S. beaches, I'd rather see them in burkinis. A friend of mine has very sensitive skin and family history of skin cancer, and she wore long sleeved coverup from Coolibar when taking the kids to the beach.
