I feel sorry for the Venezuelan people, but Im perversely glad that the country is collapsing.
Thats because its nice to have proof that Margaret Thatcher was right when she famously warned that the problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other peoples money.
To be sure, we already had proof from Greece, France, the Soviet Union, Brazil, and many other places. But its still nice to have another piece of evidence that big government eventually produces very dire results.

Just like in Germany right after surrender where the people were going to the zoo’s to kill and eat those animals; there were pictures of them carving up a dead horse in the street. Now the Venezuelans are doing the same thing. Isn’t socialism grand?
I’ve had discussions about this with Left-leaning co-workers and acquaintances. The overwhelming response to what is happening is: “Oh, they’re just not doing it (Socialism) right.”
To them, it’s always a problem with implementing the ideology—never the ideology itself. Of course, Capitalism never gets the same benefit of the doubt.
There is nothing perverse in being glad that Venezuela will finally (soon) accept reality. Just as I'm sincerely thrilled when a drug addict hits bottom in a way that puts an end to the addition, it's perfectly compassionate to be pleased when the state-sponsored robbery that constitutes socialism approaches its end.
I have said this SO many times, over SO many years here on FR...
The ONLY reason America hasn’t sunk yet and gone Full Commie is that we’re so absolutely, filthy, stinking RICH due to stop-gaps put in place by Our Founders!
Of course that NEVER stops the Socialists among us from TRYING to ROB us of our hard-earned wealth, and they’ve made AMAZING inroads, but we owe a debt of GRATITUDE to our Founding Fathers.
Those men LIVED Tyranny and set us up to resist it, pretty much on Auto-Pilot!
Some days I feel that We’re So Screwed, but other days I’m reminded that we are living a MIRACLE of foresight!
God Bless America. Always and forever. :)
Socialism can never work has never worked
And will never work
Unfortunately those college snowflakes don’t know that. If someone says they’ll get something for free they’re on it.
Another Socialist paradise lost.
Ok. 2 questions then.
Why do we continue to allow our schools to teach that it will?
Why is the US not imprisoning it's advocates?
The end result isn’t the problem, it’s having to live through it all knowing the eventual outcome. And the stupid masses we gave voting rights to. Initially in these United States, only land holders could vote.
Capitalism works because a small business
Owner has to Efficiently consistently produce a high quality high value product better than his many competitors. In socialism a government agency gets a budget no matter if they produce a quality product or not as in the EPA,FDA,government schoolS etc.

They just need more socialism. With, you know, the right people in charge this time.
Ask them how socialism can be good if is so fragile that it hasn't been implemented correctly yet in 150 years of trying.
“...To them, its always a problem with implementing the ideologynever the ideology itself..”
The people never learn. They should have NEVER let it develop in the first place. Maybe Venezuela will serve as a final example why they should fight straight away...like, for example, Russia, Germany, Cuba should have.
Live free or die. Nothing else works.

Venezuela is not “collapsing”. It has collapsed. The experiment is over. It was a gargantuan failure. I do not accept the notion that it is “collapsing”, being defined by some that it isn’t “collapsed” until every single soul is dead.
Unfortunately, that’s being raided.....by the crony capitalists/socialists.
I don’t take any joy out of Venezuela because there were many hard working producers who did not want socialism in their country.
We are not nearly as far away from this as we think. We are already observing what is close to becoming a majority vote themselves the riches of others and it could easily get much worse.
The answer to failed socialism is always more socialism.
