President Obama has refused so far to survey the Louisiana flood disaster, but he did let state and local officials know that he’s watching to make sure they don’t engage in racial discrimination.
In a 16-page guidance issued Tuesday, the Obama administration, led by the Justice Department, warned Louisiana recipients of federal disaster assistance against engaging in “unlawful discrimination on the basis of race, color, or national origin (including limited English proficiency).”
The guidance’s frameworks “highlight the importance of complying with nondiscrimination requirements of civil rights statutes, addressing the needs of the whole community, and ensuring equal opportunity to access recovery efforts.”
Needless to say, some Louisiana residents were offended, including the American Conservative’s Rod Dreher, who took umbrage at receiving an anti-discrimination lecture from Washington, D.C., as locals struggle to rescue, house and feed their neighbors.

To Obama: Shut your ugly trap, you nasty person.We saw the “Cajun Navy” work night and day rescuing their neighbors, both White and Black, taking them to safe shelters in their boats. That’s the way Americans act without your lousy government guidelines.

Noting that this post is not to be construed as encouraging state and local officials to practice discrimination, please note the following.
Consider that the only race-related protection that the states have amended the Constitution to expressly protect deals with voting rights as evidenced by the 15th Amendment.
But since the situation in Louisiana isn't related to voting problems, the bottom line is that misguided, low-information Obama is rattling the saber about vote-winning protection from racial discrimination with no constitutional authority to reprimand state and local officials that might engage in it.
Note that James Madison and Thomas Jefferson had warned patriots to be vigilant about the federal government unconstitutionally expanding its powers in subtle ways.
