U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz was crisscrossing Texas this week, meeting with constituents in Houston, El Paso, San Antonio, Laredo, Amarillo, Lubbock, Dallas and Tyler. It wasnt how Cruz had once hoped to be spending the second week of August, when, had things gone his way, he might have been hopscotching battleground states as the Republican nominee for president.
Instead, it was Donald Trump with rallies and speeches in North Carolina, Virginia, Florida and Pennsylvania Donald Trump, who Cruz refused to endorse for president in his speech at the Republican National Convention in July, and who, the day after he accepted the nomination in Cleveland, said he would not accept Cruzs endorsement if it were offered and swore he would spend what he could to defeat Cruz for re-election.
And so, Cruz found himself doing what a U.S. senator does during the August recess, particularly a senator who is up for a second term in two years and who, for the first time in his swift rise in Texas and national politics, finds himself not the hunter but the prey.
I know there are people looking for someone to run against Ted Cruz because Ive had four or five national leaders call to ask if I had an interest, which I dont by the way, said former Texas Republican Party Chairman Steve Munisteri, who added that Cruzs traversing Texas is exactly what he ought to be doing right now.
Among Republicans being recruited to challenge Cruz, according to a recent CNN story, is U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul, a six-term congressman from Austin who chairs the House Homeland Security Committee. McCaul spokesman Walter Zaykowski said the congressman is focused on his job and re-election campaign this year but he did not rule out a Senate run.

Go back to Canada, Ted, and convince them they need you.
There were things revealed about Ted during the election that surprised me and troubled me. But, he was a far better choice than Dewhurst.
He is a far better Senator than Cornyn.
Far,far too many in DC have sold out to the highest bidder. When the bid gets high enough, most cave.
Sad fact.
One article a couple of weeks ago described Cruz totally shocked at the response from his convention speech, donors not responding his calls, constituents angry at him, etc. [FYI, I was not particularly mad at his speech! It was the man himself, and his “cute” vote for your conscience wink-wink, and the ‘explanation’ next morning that got me all riled up.]
I don’t think he can turn around and be a fake Trump supporter, nobody’s going to buy that act, and it will further diminish himself. At this point, the only thing left is that he still has almost two years to salvage his senate career.
I don’t even want him on the national stage for anything else but a senator from TX, but it is up to Texans, or a president Trump for his other possible career path(s).
Sarah Paylon???
No thanks. Texas no longer wants Ted as our senator. Its called political suicide and that’s what it is.
What’s your point?
What are you doing here and now to elect Trump?
If he wants ANY groove, he had better listen to the people and back our elected candidate for president.
Cruz died the night he lost Indiana...this is just a corps of his body, the soul went to hell...
Nothing to see here, move along.
I’ll be shocked if they don’t try to primary the little so and so. Cruz is nothing more than an obstructionist. He has not been able to accomplish anything. He could take a lesson from Rand Paul.
Glenn who? Mark who? Names that no longer ring a bell.
Jesus saiid: "by their fruits you shall know them". "Lyin Ted's rotten fruit this election cycle revealed him for the sleaze bag he really is. As well as Glen Beck, et all.
These evil men would rather surreptitiously support the nefarious, utterly wicked, corrupt and lawless Hillary Clinton than openly support Mr. Trump who is a far more conservative candidate than Dole, McCain, Bush or Romney ever were.
As loyal conservatives and Republicans, the overwhelming majority of us worked very hard for and voted for these former Republican candidates in spite of the fact that they were less than conservative and did not represent many of our values BECAUSE THEY WERE OUR PARTY'S NOMINEES.
And now, these very same people are sticking the knife in all of our collective backs, NOT HONORING THEIR WORD and doing everything in their power to undermine Mr. Trump because he doesn't live up to their definition of a "conservative; this in spite of the fact that he, along with his stated policies and goals are much more conservative than ANY of these previous candidates ever were.
The truth is these purported "pillars of conservatism" aren't conservative at all. They are part of the utterly corrupt system and GOPE establishment!
They are opposed to Mr. Trump because they do not want THEIR "gravy train": enriching themselves, AND THEIR EXTENDED FAMILIES AND FRIENDS by leaching off of, and at the expense of us, the American tax payers to end. They know this will come to a swift end if Mr. Trump gets elected POTUS. Hence they are doing everything in their power to stop him because they do not care about America, American CITIZENS or the very existence of our once great nation.
ALL THESE MEN, WOMEN, POLITICIANS, the "main-stream-media" and "JOURNALISTS" CARE ABOUT IS THEMSELVES! (Yes I am yelling!)
The one up side to this whole tragedy is the fact that all of these people have finally revealed themselves for who and what they REALLY ARE! And we will NEVER forget it.
Exactly!
cRuz indeed...
You’re right :)
20 Italian restaurants within a mile or so.
One Mexican place.
You can get it at a bunch of places on the Island, if you pack heat and are prepared to use it.
YUGE mexican population in Port Richmond, mixed in with the brothers. Not worth the risk for the food!
Maybe 2 or 3 are in good neighborhoods :)
Cruz did not face a weak opponent for the senate. David Dewhurst was an entrenched RINO politician who had been Lt. Governor for a number of years. Dewhurst had the backing of the party apparatus, and Cruz was the grass-roots "Tea-Party" choice.
Somewhere along the way, Cruz began to pick up momentum. Sarah Palin endorsed him, which undoubtedly helped. Dewhurst switched to a negative campaign style that gave no one a reason to vote for Dewhurst. I was shocked that Cruz managed to wrest the nomination from Dewhurst and go on to win the seat.
Once elected, Cruz became for me the ideal Republican who stood up to the 'rats as well as the RINOs in his own party. However, after seeing his true colors in the presidential campaign,I no longer see him in the same light. I now think his opposition in the Senate, from his filibuster to being hated by other republicans (RINOs) is due to overwhelming narcissism. Whatever Cruz is, he is not the statesman I once thought he was. To actually say he would not support Trump (and let's face it - not supporting the nominee is supporting Hillary) because "Trump attacked his wife" shows that he lacks the courage and conviction to rise above personal attacks for the good of the republic. And that's not getting into other stuff like his weird support for TPP.
I cannot see myself ever voting for Cruz again. If he is primaried, I will support his opponent. If he somehow gets the nomination again, I will vote for him in the general if Trump is president. If Trump loses, I will hold Cruz at least partly responsible. And if Hillary wins, Cruz in the senate won't make a difference. The republic will be finished. I remember a FReeper comment the day after Cruz' self-immolation at the RNC. It was something like "Sure, Ted, what's losing the second amendment over Heidi's hurt feelings?" This man is no statesman. I am embarrassed to say that I bought into his act and voted for him in our primary. I've now seen his true colors. Cruz is finished as far as I am concerned.
Teddie Bare reminds me of `Ben Zajac’, a blindly ambitious politician in the show `Boss’ starring Kelsey Gramer as the amoral Chicago mayor.
Albeit, a much homelier Zajac.
Of course, that character was a winner, as well as a bad husband and father. And person. So there it is.
EliminaTED.
Yes, we will support an AMERICAN who believes in a LIMITED, Constitutional form of Republican G'ment.
I cannot say that there are many on this site who still believe in a Constitution and a LIMITED Republican form of G'ment
I am totally amused with the Low Information voters on this site who so fervently have a desire to Support MAJOR RINOs
George P. Bush came out very vocally for Trump recently. Some wondered what the point of that might be...maybe he has his eye on a Senate seat...
