The team had been wearing a decal with the words Arm in Arm since the first day of training camp this summer. Dallas police Chief David Brown and Mayor Mike Rawlings paid the team a visit on that day, according to Fox 4 News.
The NFLs strict rules on uniforms forced the league to deny the Cowboys request to wear the decal for the upcoming season.
Dallas police said it appreciated the Cowboys support.
Their concern for the families of our fallen officers, the Dallas Police Department, and the City of Dallas is what matters most, and we know that support will continue for the immediate and long term future, the department said in a statement.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and tight end Jason Witten, who created the decal, said they were disappointed with the leagues decision but said they believed the stickers already served its purpose.
The Dallas Fallen Officer Foundation told TMZ they were extremely upset over the NFLs decision.

So it was okay for that one team who wore T-shirts saying “Hands Up Don’t Shoot” lie when they ran out onto the field.
The NFL is going the way of the NBA.
Here’s an idea: every better than average player should quit the NFL and go to the CFL, making the Canadian league number one.
The ‘feminine touch’ is getting tiresome anyway.
What way is that? Please elaborate. I don't watch the nba.
Or some sort of LGBT decal.
“The NFL and the NBA can both take a flying leap. They are the Target of sports: all things PC. Ill be a fan of college sports. Pro sports is a sordid business.”
Welcome aboard, FRiend. I made that very same decision back in 2005 and swore an oath to never watch the NFL, NBA, MLB or NHL again. There’s more than enough college sporting events to occupy me and that’s where I have been putting my entertainment dollars for the past 11 years.
WILL THE RAMS DO “HANDS UP DON’T SHOOT” AGAIN WHEN THEY PLAY DALLAS........
Why can’t the NFL support a good cause .......Not a whole damn month of pink shit...
I think the league should ‘reprimand’ them for something like that, but the verbal equivalent of a slap on the wrist.
The death of a beloved sportscaster prompting an armband would ‘technically’ be not allowed, but way different than if they all came out wearing ‘hands up don’t shoot’ headbands or something.
Let's remember: "Political correctness" is just another word for "Censorship."
Whatever happened to the old adage, once passed on by parents to their children as a means of strengthening their sense of self and resolve, "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me".
Or, the Thomas Jefferson bit of wisdom: "The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods, or no God. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." - Thomas Jefferson
Jim McMahon!
With God’s Blessings, my prayers and best wishes!

Pathetic losers. The local minor league baseball team near me has two ambushed and murdered deputies badge numbers painted on their field. The deputies wives threw the first pitch on opening day and the baseballs were delivered by sheriff honor guard by motorcycle.
The Cowboys should do that and tell NFL to cram it.
There is a big difference...the Cowboys REQUESTED and were denied due to strict uniform rules....
The ACTIONS of individuals that wasn’t sanctioned by the league and even the coach was unaware were the actions of individuals...
The NFL decided to take a hands off approach and not find them which during that time as a company was probably the right thing to do. Was it right or wrong? Only time will tell but given the tenor of the country at the time and probably 70% or greater being black athletes it probably was a good business decision...remember the NFL is a business acting in its own best interests of that and its owners
The feminine touch is getting tiresome anyway.
speaking of the ‘feminine touch’, is it just me, or every Olympic year does the media seems to become obsessed with the female athletes to the exclusion of anything else...?
Ditto.
That said, the Cowboys are my pro team. They are trying to do the right thing, so I’ll watch them.
"We respect and understand the concerns of all individuals who have expressed views on this tragic situation," Brian McCarthy, the NFL's vice president of communications, said in a statement.
Except the Cowboys and the police......
So maybe the Cowboys just should have done it without asking.
They’re becoming unwatchable.
Too political, too politically correct, too hypocritical, and not enough emphasis on facts and statistics when rendering opinions.
And too many commercials.
——College aint a heckuva lot better. Witness: Jameis Crablegs Winston, previously of FSU (Now with the Tampa Thugs, er, Bucs).......——
Woah...don’t knock the next NFC champions...
