I think the league should ‘reprimand’ them for something like that, but the verbal equivalent of a slap on the wrist.

The death of a beloved sportscaster prompting an armband would ‘technically’ be not allowed, but way different than if they all came out wearing ‘hands up don’t shoot’ headbands or something.

I should have clarified that the Cubs received permission first from MLB to wear the patch on their sleeves for one season.

The Texas Rangers had a black band sewn on their uniform several years ago to “mourn” the death of long time owner Eddie Childs. Nobody in the league complained as far as I know
