1st CD, Republican: Incumbent Paul Ryan, of Janesville, and Paul Nehlen, of Williams Bay.
I absolutely have nothing on this election, so I thought I'd start a thread, and we can add to it as information comes in. Some polls have Ryan way ahead, and a few find it less certain. On the other hand, wasn't this the climate before the Cantor election? He was sitting fat dumb and happy with a big lead in the polls?
If I were a betting man, I'd have to put my money on Ryan and by all counts, he's a very popular guy up there, but then again, so is Obama.
Heard Paul Nehlan name was not a some counties ballots .grrrr
My husband and I both voted for Nehlen this morning. I did do a bit of waffling as the election got nearer just because I have voted for Ryan so many times and it wasn’t until recently with all the rolling over for Obama, stance on immigration, etc.. that I started to be against him. I guess he never had a decent opponent until now, either. All of the local radio hosts have also come out against Nehlen, but that almost solidified my vote FOR him as they have been the biggest bunch of never-Trump crybabies and I have for the most part stopped listening to them. Anyway, we are pretty sure Ryan will win, but at this point we felt we at least needed to send Ryan a message in winning by a much smaller margin that people are watching and not just going to keep voting for him if he keeps this up. We’ll see!
Well, a lot of what happens in VA politics can be explained by “Virginians are a bunch of ornery cusses.” And damn proud of it. LOL.
It would make me so happy to see Nehlen win...which is probably why he’ll lose.
Then, the beauty of it is, we the voters can demand that our candidates sign a pledge to support the contract. It will tell us who is on our side and who isn't. Those that refuse, they can go with Ryan and join the Democrats. If we get the vast majority of Republicans to sign, and if Trump wins in November while touting the Contract, the stage will be set to install a new leadership in the House and (hopefully) in the Senate from the ranks of those who signed the pledge. Those who didn't will be cowed by a Trump victory into accepting that America first is now what we are going to do.
Agree! I just did a little more research. Apparently Bernie Sanders’ supporters are wild to defeat Ryan. Sanders opposed TPP, and the belief is that if Ryan prevails, he’ll enact it in ‘17. So the Sanders’ Dems are in full cry against Ryan. We’ll see how effective they are.
Seems to me most of the disgust is within the echo chamber operating here.
Where was your Saint Paul when Kate was laying dead in a street murdered by a criminal alien in a sanctuary city?
Great example of what I am saying. Thanks for proving my point.
I think you win. That is probably the biggest reason for his popularity locally.
Yes, mostly the former Cruzers, who have creeped back in as Never Trumpers..
I think we already know. Sigh....
Diamond and Silk?
Get over it Cruz lost. Remember Rules are Rules only until they are not.
As for Ryan vs Nehlen, you ask why I would vote for Ryan after what I know about him? I would ask, what exactly do you know about Nehlen?
We know he claims to be a local business owner when there is no sign that he actually is. We know he is being funded by out of state interests that are, to say the least, interesting.
We have seen too many stealth candidates to openly accept Nehlen's clams.
It’s sad that Ryan jumped the shark. I used to like him and he seemed very conservative. DC got to him...big time!
Ryan funded 100% of 0bama’s priorities, including Executive Amnesty and 0bamaCare.
Have you looked at the laws the house has passed in this last session - since Ryan became speaker? Unfortunately, most of them have not made it through the senate (and even if they did, they would be vetoed by Obama).
All I know is he tries to screw Veterans at every turn.
I hope Nehlen wins, because Ryan appears to be like most other Republican career politicians. Saying just enough at home to get the votes, then spending the rest of his time preserving his political career by catering to the money sources.
Bingo - thanks for playing. A cursory review of my posting history would show I was not favoring Cruz. Never liked his supporter's attitudes.
Alas, rabid Trump supports tend in the same direction.
Here’s your thread! Now you have somewhere to cheer for Ryan.
