1st CD, Republican: Incumbent Paul Ryan, of Janesville, and Paul Nehlen, of Williams Bay.
I absolutely have nothing on this election, so I thought I'd start a thread, and we can add to it as information comes in. Some polls have Ryan way ahead, and a few find it less certain. On the other hand, wasn't this the climate before the Cantor election? He was sitting fat dumb and happy with a big lead in the polls?
If I were a betting man, I'd have to put my money on Ryan and by all counts, he's a very popular guy up there, but then again, so is Obama.
I would guess Nehlen is more popular nationwide with Trump supporters than he is with southern Wisconsin Republicans.
Naturally. Trump supporter don’t support cutting vet pay, campaigning for Obama’s TPA and open borders. Amnesty Ryan and apparently a lot of Wisconsin “conservatives” do support that progressive agenda.
You’d think they’d put together a “Contract for America” with all the great things Trump proposes.
[Im sure Trump will welcome his victory should he win.]
A NEHLEN win would show TRUMP he doesn’t need to kowtow to the GOPe. It’s time to clean house! PRAY!
Thank you for starting this thread.
I’m on pins and needles praying Nehlen wins.
betting on vote fraud for a Ryan win
I hope that smirk on his face can be wiped off later tonight!
We have to remove both wings of the Uniparty, It just so happens that the GOP wing is the easier one to take out.
Who’s the guy next to Rubio?
I read an article the other day in a newspaper...yikes, they still have them...and it was saying that Ryan can’t defend himself, he’s a #NeverTrumper and can’t say that anyone is running against him; and that if he acknowledges it, it would mean that he would have to say what he is for and against, and he can’t do that being a ‘traitor’....
Like I said, it was in a ‘newspaper’ so I took it for what it was worth...
I met the 2 young men who helped Brat defeat Cantor. They wrote the book “How to Bag a RINO” Gray Delaney and Zach Werrell
About what time will we know the results?
Why would Democrat crossover voters NOT vote for Ryan? He’s a Democrat’s DREAM! He’ll give ‘em any bill they want!
You have to delve into some recent history in Wisconsin to understand this. There is a lot of memory about what happened to Walker, both in the recalls and with Trump. Walker has become a bit of a cult hero here, and deservedly so. Sort of a giant slayer. Unfortunately, he was starting from a state being so far in left field that even with all the movement he and the rest of the republicans in the state have done, the state is still around the center.
But a lot has been done even with some very significant opposition. Remember, since Walker we have gotten concealed carry legislation, photo ID to vote, "Act 10" public union changes, University of Wisconsin tuition freeze for four+ year, and heck, even 70 MPH interstates. And tons of other things to move the state in the right direction.
Ryan is also looked upon fondly. He is know here as a policy wonk. Very deep thinker. Creative ideas for budgeting. He is the guy the "grandma tossed over the cliff" was created for.
Here on FreeRepublic there is a recent addition of Trump hero worship. Ryan has become a victim of the blame-anyone-that-doesn't-enthusiastically-support-Trump crowd. Sure, some of the stuff he has done seems boneheaded upon first examination. But upon further review a reasonable person can at least understand what was being attempted. Even on that budget mess when he first became speaker.
But that doesn't stop him from being blamed for things that happened before he was speaker. And here in Wisconsin we react differently to that sort of stuff because of what has happened to Walker and others.
I don't live in his district, but if I did, I could see myself voting for him. I guess in the eyes of many here that makes me not conservative. So be it.
I thought I’d see what Twitter is saying about Ryan’s/Wisconsin primary and I have back tracked 90 minutes... Not one (well, maybe one) in favor of Ryan’s,... Seriously, nearly every one is a vote him out message! Wonder what is happening with the exit polling? I sure hope it mirrors Twitter :)
Do they not allow polls up there?
Must be part of the controlled MSM. Never seen an important race with no polls. The only recent one is the Remington Research (Jeff Roe) poll that showed Ryan 80% Nehlen 14%. Polling was conducted in areas outside or just bordering CD1, not the majority of Ryan’s district or his hometown of Janesville. Wisconsin talk radio is still critical of Trump and very pro Ryan. Don’t know how much impact that will have. Keep praying!!
Phony conservatives or Democrat plants?
Sarah Palin has strongly endorsed Nehlen. So did Trump until he must have been told to support Ryan by the GOP-e.

Rubbish. The nationwide disgust for Paul Ryan has noting to do with Trump. Where was your Saint Paul when Kate was laying dead in a street murdered by a criminal alien in a sanctuary city? Breaking bread with his best buddy Luis Gutierrez? Too busy campaigning for Obama’s TPA/TPP to fight for the 1,000s of Kate’s who have been murdered, raped and/or robbed by illegals?
Paul Ryan made his progressive agenda enabling bed. Now he’s going to lay in it. He is a general without an army outside his home state and has no future on the national stage.
I've read that the Dems have an active crossover voter campaign against Ryan.
Cantor was a victim of redistricting in my view. That and he was an arrogant putz.
The VA general assembly did him a bad turn by making his district more conservative. He ended up picking up a lot of new conservative voters who didn’t know Cantor from the man on the moon. It gave Dave Brat a opportunity.
Truth be told, though, I think the more recent election between Forbes and Taylor was more telling. There you had 2 “conservatives” battling it out. The insurgent won.
People at least in VA are pissed off and more than happy to take it out on incumbents. Funny thing is that neither Brat’s nor Taylor’s districts are doing poorly in an economic sense so go figure.
