Donald Trump said Tuesday he would support raising the federal minimum wage to $10 an hour, a departure from his previous assertion that wages are "too high."
The Republican presidential nominee was pressed to provide a specific number by Fox News anchor Bill O'Reilly, who said, "there has to be a federal minimum wage."
Trump initially dismissed that suggestion.
"There doesn't have to be," Trump said. "I would leave it and raise it somewhat. You need to help people. I know it's not very Republican to say."
"Ten bucks?" O'Reilly asked.
"I would say 10. I would say 10," Trump agreed. "But with the understanding that somebody like me is going to bring back jobs. I don't want people to be in that $10 category for very long. But the thing is, Bill, let the states make the deal."

You are confusing spending and revenue. Totally different issues. Try to separate them so you can talk sanely about the them.
No, the condition is called “No jobs available”.
It’s pretty much there now in most cases.
Either states have raised it, or businesses have found they have to pay more to hire someone who is slightly less brain dead.
Ok..... I’ll think on that
Off the top of my head, a wage is payment for work. If there is no work, there can be no wage.
If one works for $0 wage he is either a volunteer or a slave earning nothing for the time or labor
If we can’t (as a nation) even have an honest discussion about minimum wage, WTH!? Minimum wage was never intended to support a family... entry-level position to get your foot in the door and prove yourself. Even so, the earned income tax credit was implemented in 1975 and has evolved over the years to supplement the income of low-wage earners with dependents. So, if the argument is that a single person with no dependents can’t get by on minimum wage, the response should be “work harder, learn a valuable skill.” If the argument is one cannot support a family on a full-time minimum wage job, one needs to consider EITC as well... in which case, the ‘minimum wage plus EITC’ hourly rate is basically at its (constant dollar) historical average, so why is it such a pressing issue now? The answer is because: 1) the economy stinks, there are fewer opportunities to climb the ranks within stagnant/downsizing companies and it is more an more difficult to start or run a small company with over-regulation, 2) the education system is broken... too few people with the necessary skills to start their own small business even if regulations weren’t so burdensome, and 3) supply outpacing demand for low-skill jobs due to high levels of immigration (legal and illegal)... if you don’t like your minimum wage job, there are a dozen behind you waiting to take your spot. It is no longer enough to be punctual, respectful and dependable to climb out of a minimum wage position... too many people eager for the same opportunity and too little growth in the economy to foster widespread upward mobility.
A cynic might think the minimum wage issue is an illegal immigration issue since they can’t claim EIC.
Absolutely.
$15 an hour in New York City is peanuts. It’s a 30,000 a year income in a full time job of 40 hours a week, 2000 a year.
In the rural Midwest it is almost a marginally livable income. It is liveable for a frugal person.
Another issue is whether we’re talking part-time job or full-time job. A 10 hour a week job might get someone started, but it won’t keep them going.
In the long run, the issue is monthly income.
While I agree with you, that the minimum wage was and is a terrible policy, campaigning against it now is not a strategy.
I think Trump said just enough to put the minimum wage, as a wedge issue, away.
That’s the real minimum wage anyway, regardless of what laws are passed. Those people whose labor is worth less than the legally mandated minimum wage will make the real minimum wage.
Get the spending under control, then come back and talk to me about revenue.
I never said anything about voting for Tom Hoefling I mearly enjoyed your post as a voice of Sanity and truth.
Yes, we’ve heard that refrain for years.
Trump is bending on some of these hot topics favored by the Libs. His escape is his repeated statement that it is a local issue. Let’s see how it develops and focus on larger issues such as the terrorist invasion championed by Hillary, Kaine and even Paul Ryan.
So simple, I am shocked you did not figure out why $10.
It is the amount required to disqualify a single person from welfare benefits in most states.
Would you prefer if the person is given welfare, food stamps, rent subsidy, heat subsidy, and other free stuff and not have to drag his/her butt to work every day?
Yes. Trump sees this as a distraction from bigger issues such national security, employment, taxes, the economy, military, the VA, etc.
I don't think HClinton will let him get away with a statement like this at a debate, but this will do for now.
“So simple, I am shocked you did not figure out why $10.
It is the amount required to disqualify a single person from welfare benefits in most states.”
It is “the amount required” NOW, but when $10 minimum wage passes, you can get your democrat that the “amount required to disqualify for a single person from welfare benefits” will RISE to account for the minimum wage. It is pure economics that the minimum wage sets the FLOOR! How hard is it to understand? If “we” are for $10 minimum wage, we might as well be for $15, because in 2 years, it will be $15. Then, it will be $30 in the next 5 years.
DO not lose sleep over this. Under POTUS Trump, it is not gonna happen, which will hurt business. Even the democrats will not RAISE earnings limit to qualify for welfare. If anything they will lower it! Of course Under POTUS Hillary, all bets are off.
But, we have been told by corporatists that raising the minimum wage would kill jobs. If what you are saying is true than that obviously would not happen. Some fields like construction some unscrupulous contractors will hire and keep them off the books. Bur, it would be a real chore for others. Some in the fast food are fighting high minimum wages by setting up IT order takers. Obviously those jobs are going away.
