FREEDOM!!!!
:-)
NW FL does have some niiiiiice beaches. I love being close to the ocean but the tourists are what have kept me from wanting to make the coast a permanent home. Just can’t put up with them.
Now that I’ve been on this farm for several years, I ruined. Green acres is the place to be. LOL
Eglin is why Dad moved to FL years ago. He retired as an aeronautical engineer up here and moved there to do consulting work. He stayed there until he passed away last year. Just loved it.
Oooooh, we get spots due to all the dust on the cars from farming and such. We give them good scrubbings every now and then but do it at home. We’re not going to pay for a car wash.
Yes! It does! I’d forgotten about that. It’s been a long time since I’ve been to the beach there.
We went to Pensacola last summer when we were in FL for Dad’s memorial service but only went to the Naval air and space museum.
Sorry to hear of his passing.
I hope they didn’t get stupid and build annex that didn’t match the original. That’s a beautiful building.
Hmmmm, wonder if the people who first started moving to the south part of the county ended up being disappointed. It happens often. People want to move to the country to get away from crowds, then others follow suit and before ya know, it’s crowded.
Nice shot of the F-35’s!
One of the things I enjoyed most about being down there was hearing all the different war planes flying overhead. Gave me goosebumps .... the good kind.
Thanks, my.
He battled cancer off and on for over 20 years but it finally got him. I’m at peace with it because he was ready to go when it happened. But I do miss him and always will.
I no longer go down to South Walton but my Daughter who lives in Oklahoma rented a condo right on the beach a couple of years ago. I spent the week with them there.
I could not believe how crowded and expensive the area is now. They filmed “The Truman Show” down there in South Walton.
I worked at LaFountains Wharf in Destin while I was in high school. It was a sleepy little fishing village. Now a major resort.
RIP
Well, at least YOU have them to smile over at times! :) Bet he/she was a cute little thing all dressed up in bike gear!
Yes, indeed!
One of the loveliest places I ever stayed in the summer was Water Island. It’s a town on Fire Island that had at that time no phones, no electricity—and no ferry! You had to take the ferry to the next town over and lug your stuff and your groceries a mile and a half down the beach. The house was an old mainland house that had been floated over.
A hassle but the isolation was worth it.
I would never try to go back to Fire Island. It’s all changed now, would never be the way I remember it.
It’s gone crazy all along the coast. Same in NC, except for long stretches of the Outer Banks. Those are wildlife reserves. But where houses, condos, and hotels can be built, they’re crammed in there.
I lived in Wilmington for a year and liked it ok. But I only went to the beach during off season. I don’t care a thing about swimming or sunbathing. I just enjoy sitting there listening to the surf sounds and feeling the breeze.
Destin is crazy. And just trying to get there can be a nightmare. Traffic is insane.
Sounds lovely but that was before the ferry changed to fairy and got weird. :)
Actually, the gay towns were already gay at that point. They have been gay ever since I first started going out there in the sixties.
We used to go to the Pines and the Grove for the night life—music, good restaurants. There was a rule that there had to be one woman with every three men on the dance floor, so the gay guys were happy to see us arrive so more of them could dance. People don’t believe me when I tell them this.
I do believe you, but it’s weird nonetheless. :)
It is weird. Everything was different then.
Very. Then it was weird. Now it’s just downright nasty.
