Melania Trump’s Speech Bears Striking Similarities to Michelle Obama’s 2008 Address
NY Times ^ | 7/19/2016 | MAGGIE HABERMAN

Mrs. Trump, Monday night:

“From a young age, my parents impressed on me the values that you work hard for what you want in life, that your word is your bond and you do what you say and keep your promise, that you treat people with respect. They taught and showed me values and morals in their daily lives. That is a lesson that I continue to pass along to our son. And we need to pass those lessons on to the many generations to follow. Because we want our children in this nation to know that the only limit to your achievements is the strength of your dreams and your willingness to work for them.”

Mrs. Obama, in her 2008 speech:

“Barack and I were raised with so many of the same values: that you work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say you’re going to do; that you treat people with dignity and respect, even if you don’t know them, and even if you don’t agree with them. And Barack and I set out to build lives guided by these values, and pass them on to the next generation. Because we want our children — and all children in this nation — to know that the only limit to the height of your achievements is the reach of your dreams and your willingness to work for them.

Oh baloney. It’s possible Moochelle made her speech from someone elses. These words might be in public domain. Good Lord - this is trivial - and another thing - when Melania made her speech, she looked lovingly, and adoringly at everyone with those large, soft, eyes of hers. Moochelle’s words were spit out in hate and anger.

There’s a website I used in college where you can post speeches, and it will tell you if the swords have been plagiarized or not.

It’s important for conservatives to point out that Obama and Biden have been accused of plagiarism, and they are not the spouse of candidates, they are the President and VP! Our people must drive that point home.

That’s why we MUST point out over and over that Obama and Biden have done the same.

Plagiarism is a kind of lie. It means falsely representing another's words as your own.

So when a student hands in an essay they claim as their own original work and it wasn't that is plagiarism, and certainly a professor should not tolerate it.

Likewise if I were a politician and hired a speech writer who misrepresented a lifted passage as if it were original work, that is plagiarism by the speech writer.

Unless Melania is claiming the words as her own, she is simply not guilty of plagiarism. It is much more likely there is a speech writer who is. And that is the person that deserves to take the blame. Secondary blame could be assigned if you like to the person that hired and managed them and all the way up to the Donald, but the only person guilty of plagiarism would be the speech writer. The secondary blame would only be for a poor hiring choice...and if the guy is not fired promptly for mismanagement.

Indeed. It’s four more than I speak too, and I bet a lot of her critics (people who were criticizing her long before this mishap) can only speak one or two at the most.

It’s not a big deal to me, at all. The whole whoopla reminds me of the Stairway To Heaven vs Taurus controversy.

Some expressions are just part of social consciousness and we’ve heard them a thousand times in a thousand similar ways. And even a professor would probably ask for source materials before making an accusation of plagerism. I thought it was pretty mean-spirited and anal for MSM to jump on it within minutes as a way to discredit Melania and question her personal integrity rather than allow her to enjoy her moment.

“I have been dealing with plagiarism, intentional and unintentional, for my whole working life."

I've always taught that plagiarism is stealing from one person.....Research is stealing from many people. <-—and that is plagiarized. ;)

This is a typical kerfuffle from the MSM and we can expect many more. It is nothing and the only people who say this determines their vote were already not supporting Trump.

By discussing this rather meaningless speech we have all become accustomed to (the first lady nominee) they are not forced to cover the effective skewering of their candidate tonight.

I thought she did fine and like others have said - it’s sort of standard stuff. Once again the right is held to a standard that is NEVER applied to the left.

That thought had also occurred to me, but I discarded it as unlikely. But heck its possible I suppose...just think its a little too much second guessing to be plausible...but still...

Thinking along these lines hypothetically: it would mean team Trump was intentionally manufacturing a scandal against themselves. Of course the content of it will have some down side, but they must think that there is more upside. Maybe because it is a stark contrast with the kind of scandal Hillary has. Maybe because it changes the subject from the NeverTrump party disunity narrative?

That’s a good point with the media. If only I were a pundit on one of the networks like CNN. I would bring this with me to the inevitable discussions the liberals will have tomorrow to avoid discussing real issues.

I’ve tried to run it through a plagiarism tracker but only could find comparisons of these two speeches because that’s in the news now. I have no problem with the delivery of Melania. I don’t blame her.

But the question is why the speechwriter, if that’s who it was, did it? It is so blatant and there has been so much attempted Trump sabotage from GOPe consultant

This “plagiarism” was certainly not discoverer by the press. The MSM is incapable of actual investigative reporting, but they’re very good at pushing a media package provided to them from their masters; especially if it is damaging to a Republican candidate.

for her to do?

back up, Sparky. I’m watching Chris Matthews convinced that it was a setup. (yeah, that Chris Matthews). He’s calling for the head of the ‘dead meat’ speechwriter and says he will be identifying that person and he promises to find out. Rachel Maddow saying it’s like taking the candidates wife and intentionally tripping her. Another saying Melania’s a victim not a perpetrator. Another saying everyone has been victimized by the speechwriter. And that’s just MSNBC. So you might just want to put that ‘her’ back in your pocket.

There is no way around this. Stop with the "nothing to see here" schmuckery and "yawn" jackhole-ness here...

Trump and his handlers have to get their act together. If she's so smart, she should have written the damn thing herself., unless she did and plagiarized the damn speech.

This level of amateur hour, mind numbing stupidity should be concerning to intelligent people. Wake up. Demand better from this guy and his band of half-assers who are running/ruining his campaign. WAKE UP YOU IDIOTS.

So who wrote that paragraph? Some one of that team submitted it as part of the drfting of the speech.
