Retailers have blamed the weather, slow job growth and millennials for their poor results this past year, but a new study claims that more than 20 percent of Americans are simply too poor to shop.
These 26 million Americans are juggling two to three jobs, earning just around $27,000 a year and supporting two to four children and exist largely under the radar, according to Americas Research Group, which has been tracking consumer shopping trends since 1979.

Where do you fall on the Bell curve?
Combination hunting / fishing license is around 68$ a year ..... Bow Hunt (no I’m not a felon) and fish from a dock on the shore........ eat eat eat !!
Get a bicycle , or tricycle if your a democrat, or walk to work, oh my bad , if your a conservative ride your bicycle to work.
Big box stores sell rice, pinto beans, oatmeal, flour, cornmeal in 50 pound bags really cheap. Again if your a democrat you can still cook at home. Its still allowed till Clinton gets sworn in. Then its Soylant Green for everybody ...... weeeee !
Bottom line, live within your means , I budget by fifths. Invest a fifth, save a fifth, drink a fifth etc ....
Stay Safe , hope yer well !
LMAO Funny !!
Sporks are essential utensils for zen like minimalists ......:o)
Albeit the titanium ones scream “elitist rich spork snob” IMO.
Stay Safe !!!
Again, good posts, thank you CodeToad
People with a smidgen of ability to plan ahead don’t get married and start making babies before they have a means to support them. I grew up in a single wide trailer and my dad had a fifth grade education. Even he knew enough to tell me not to get married until I had worked out how to support a family. And most people who are so poor don’t get married, shacking up and knocking up are part of a lifestyle that keeps them on the bottom.
You make monumentally stupid decisions and the universe is not going to drop everything to come rescue you, especially if you keep doing it. No one can save you from yourself, and giving you an EBT card only finances your ability to destroy yourself.
But even someone in this situation can get out if they are willing to 1. show up to work 2. do what they are told and 3. learn. But you expect that these people will show up on day one knowing nothing and be paid like a skilled worker. If you require businesses to pay skilled worker wages they will only hire skilled workers.
Minimum wage means there is no market for what you are able to do. Keep jacking it up and there is no reason to hire someone to do it. Businesses will just give those responsibilities to their skilled workers. Rather than hire a janitor, they will have everyone take out their own trash and rotate cleaning the toilets. Rather than hire movers they will ask people to move themselves. Minimum wage increases always increase unemployment.
“Whats his regimes new unemployment figures? 4.9%? Isnt that normal?”
It is if 94 million is 4.9% of 320 million.
“These 26 million Americans are juggling two to three jobs, earning just around $27,000 a year and supporting two to four children...”
So in other words you’re telling me that there are over twenty million reasons that welfare should require implantable birth control or surgical sterilization, with the sole exception of post-menopausal women.
Listening to Dolly now, try later.
Not sure exactly what you mean, however, perhaps parents had good jobs in past—thought they could support 4 kids...but now due to lost jobs, etc., they have 4 and making $27,000
I live in a very affluent area. Ten years ago, I used to go out and shop frequently—as a past-time with family; however, don’t do much of that now given the current and future economic trends.
OMG! LMAO! You’re gonna be fun.
Do you think that way about all the welfare and illegals here that we taxpayers support?
What’s your solution?
Yes we are drowning. My husband makes way more than that and I work too and we are drowning. College tuition, health care, taxes, etc.
2008 and on then obamacare in 2010.
I wish my kids were minimalists or hippies or sucking from the govt teat. Oh wait, no I don’t, lol.
LMAO they may not want stuff but they expect stuff for free (not your post or mine, just this minimalist stuff postings).
We now have an $8000 deductible. It is killing us.
My youngest daughter spent 4 days in the hospital early May and we owe $4200 on top of all the other costs from the year.I don’t go to the doctor unless it’s an emergency. I owe $600 for a colonoscopy from November. We had to pay $500 for my daughter’s MRI up front in late May.
We pay over $500/mo premium and office visits went up too. Pharmacy went up too, a lot! This all since 2010. We are screwed. Less than 6 months for a late bill and it goes to collections. I go from obsessing about paying the medical bills to not caring.
What’s your advice to those of us like me, married with 4 kids Husband is a white collar professional, I stayed home for 14 years to raise the kids and back at work now for the last 10 years (white collar professional). Two out of college, two in college. Still paying parent loans for the two college graduates.
I’ve voted R since Reagan and all my kids vote R.
Tell me again your solution.
OK then.
Nice.
OK you’re a troll. LMAO
Seriously?
