Retailers have blamed the weather, slow job growth and millennials for their poor results this past year, but a new study claims that more than 20 percent of Americans are simply too poor to shop.
These 26 million Americans are juggling two to three jobs, earning just around $27,000 a year and supporting two to four children and exist largely under the radar, according to Americas Research Group, which has been tracking consumer shopping trends since 1979.

“The clue to going shopping is GET A JOB.”
94 million Americans are out of work. Do you suppose they are *all* deadbeats?
I used to be true that a person who didn’t have a job didn’t want one. That is no longer the case.
“Who works 3 jobs to make $13/hour for the given 8 hour work day?”
The 8-hour work day is history. Many people have to work 16 to 20 hours a day.
“No work, no food.”
That’s what we have now. No work, and no food.
26 million is way less than 20 percent of all Americans.
Common Core Math might explain this.
“Cant blame millennials for everything and they are probably fueling that weed boom out in Colorado.”
There are a lot of older veterans who use it because they can’t get any effective pain medication from the VA.
Those loathsome scum tried to send me home after surgery with one (1) gabapentin.
And yet, same thread -and another very lowbrow, very low class poster.
Now go find someone else to bother and in the meantime, shut that hole in your face, lol.
My son who is 6’2” does not get enough to eat. He needs huge portions of meat and I can’t afford it.
You're right on mark. Great post.
Got that right.
Nigeria’s in that class too, and shouldn’t be. They should be richer than France with all the stuff they got buried in the ground.
51% of all American wage earners make less than $30,000 a year.
There really seems to be a wrong angle on this thread. The fact is that it's the MIDDLE CLASS that's not shopping as before, not the "poor".
The middle class has none of the discretionary dollars they have had before. Taxes, health costs and retail prices on everything is going up, while the middle-class income stagnates. So the middle class isn't spending and "shopping" like they used to because then they WILL be poor.
Our economy is being killed because corporations, manufacturers, retail stores, etc. are shutting down every day due to NO CUSTOMERS.
Generally speaking, the rich are doing fine, the really-poor pay no taxes and get many free benefits.... but people better start paying attention to what's happening to the middle class.
It's a robust MIDDLE CLASS that's the stabilizing and saving factor in any civilized, free enterprise country. This is precisely why the middle class is always the target for destruction by the Left, including our own socialist government.
The upcoming election is crucial...(the understatement of the year).

“I dont need the latest and greatest to enjoy life.”
A man is as rich as the number of things he does NOT NEED....Let alone WANT !
To rework Adam Ant, what’s the use of shopping when nothing is worth buying?
Mr. Apple go sit on a splintered pole.
And you just demonstrated the mindset of the GOPe. Having a child with your wife is now, "knock up some harpy because I couldn't keep my pants on". Yes, nice.
And you might notice that the article is about those people NOT spending money they don't have. They are doing without.
B.S There are no poor in this country. None.
Every time we see some stupid news propagandist do a story at a home of some person claiming to be poor we a large screen TV, expensive sneakers, a video game, etc.
No, you aren't.
The only thing you got right is they do have the right to public education. Where their kids can be taught that they are scum because their skin is the wrong color.
You are talking about people on welfare.
Those are two different groups although you are not alone on this thread in thinking that they are the same group.
