Calls For Texas Independence Surge In Wake Of Brexit Vote
Vocativ ^ | Jun 24, 2016 | Jacob Steinblatt

After residents of the UK voted today to leave the European Union, the movement for an independent Texas may be gaining serious momentum, with thousands online calling for a “Texit.”

The largest group agitating for secession is the Texas Nationalist Movement, which has been promoting its own version of Brexit, called Texit, over the past several weeks. The group has taken inspiration from the pro-exit campaign in Britain, noting that the two movements share many of the same principles. Daniel Miller, president of the TNM, told Australian website news.com.au, “The vast majority of the laws, rules and regulations that affect the people of Texas are created by the political class or unelected bureaucrats in Washington” — a sentiment which echoes the arguments made by the British Leave campaign.

What Texas could seriously consider is exercising our express right to split into as many as five states. If the boundaries are carefully gerrymandered we could have as many as ten conservative Senators.

It is never going to happen, but it is a lot more realistic than trying to secede. Secession did not turn out too well the last time it was tried.

I’ve always thought that was a good idea, as well-pretty much separate mostly conservative states from the mostly liberal ones-maybe the liberals in the cities here would trade properties with conservatives in their state, and we could have some kind of harmony, living around those with more similar ideas...

That’s an interesting concept.

It could be a big help to the people in New York too.

Split off the non-big cities and you instantly come up with two more Conservative Senators.

The only problem is, New York City could break up into states the size of the current burroughs, and then you’d have more Liberal Senators as well.

I do think this concept has problems, but it is an interesting concept none the less.

In states with a Conservative majority legislature, you could come up with a number of new mini-states.

Of course the Leftists would respond in Leftist states.

The problem for them right now, is that there are many more Conservative states.

In California, a perceptually Leftist state, as much as 75% of the state could ‘re-state’ and come up with two senators that were Conservative from each.

In the quest for break-aways in California, I’ve always opposed it. This concept may add merit to the idea.

Leftist states senate impact would be lessened. There again, I don’t know how it would break out due to obvious Leftist counter-measures.

The biggest challenge in any state would be gerrymandering the boundaries to keep the large, densely populated Democrat controlled cities from controlling any of the new states.

Even here in Texas the Democrats have taken control of the largest cities, with most of the conservatives escaping to the suburbs, exurbs, and rural areas.

Texas negotiated the specific right to split into as many as five states in its treaty joining the U.S. I don’t know if any other state has expressly retained that right.

Yes, and if Hillary is elected, the Supreme Court will be packed with lefties who will do whatever she wants done, and Congress will be as useless as the Roman Senate after Caesar.

I know what you mean.

City leaders even in Conservative areas seem to be shockingly Leftist in nature.

I’ve seen it in my own city.

It could be as simple as the Chamber of Commerce influence.

The only problem is that the largest cities in Texas are run by Demonrats so that plan may backfire...

Texas negotiated the specific right to split into as many as five states in its treaty joining the U.S. I don’t know if any other state has expressly retained that right.

From the Joint Resolution for Annexing Texas to the United States:

Third — New States of convenient size not exceeding four in number, in addition to said State of Texas and having sufficient population, may, hereafter by the consent of said State, be formed out of the territory thereof, which shall be entitled to admission under the provisions of the Federal Constitution

Emphasis added

So we need to examine the provisions of the U.S. Constitution to determine the provisions for adding states.

New States may be admitted by the Congress into this Union

U.S. Constitution: Article IV, Section 3, Clause 1

So ... the U.S. Congress must admit any "new states" to be created out of Texas. This is the same as any other state, which must have (1) Consent of the state to split into additional states; and (2) Approval of the U.S. Congress.

To borrow from the great Ronald Reagan who said, “It isn't so much that liberals are ignorant. It's just that they know so many things that aren't so.” The same seems to apply to many Texans.

Without raising the bar for voting, and a repudiation of ‘one man, one vote’, there will never be a successful secession movement.

I think cities are infested with democrats because people who go there to live don’t want or know how to produce/provide any of the necessities of life themselves, being perfectly happy to having it all provided by someone else-I’d bet real money that about half of the people in any major city would not survive long without trucks to bring food to the store, no water coming out of the faucets, and the electrical grid down-probably would look like Venezuela...

Many of my family members still refuse to live in cities, preferring to grow food and raise livestock and own little shops instead-it makes sense to me to live where fresh food is readily available by walking out the front door, even if life is otherwise a bit hard-if everything went boom, a city would just be a place to get trapped...

PREDICTIONS:

1. If Texas votes to succeed it will become the most populated state by a large margin in a matter of months.

2. There is plenty of land available and new home starts will be the highest in history.

3. Companies will flock there in droves thanks to a lack of endless government beuracracy and punishing taxes. In 5 years it will be the most prosperous country on earth. Everyone who can work will work and will be required to invest a good portion of their in me for retirement. If injured or become too sick to work they will received assistance which will not be open ended and will be closely monitored.

3. One of the first actions by this young country, New Texas, will be to form an Army to immediately enforce and protect its borders, in ALL directions.

4. A “wall” will be constructed primarily of lead, with depleted uranium occasionally based on the threat, and will not be a solid wall but rather a moving wall traveling in sections ranging from approximately 55 to 500 grains in weight and this wall WILL NOT be allowed to discriminate. If invader is detected the wall will eliminate the threat.

5. Within 10 years all the rest of the area formerly know as CONUS will beg to joint New Texas and all except the west coast and northeast will be allowed to join under very strict rules of behavior and compliance.

6. Members of the old mainstream media will be foresee to retrain because the only media will be Drudge Report and Free Republic.

Texas will then have to quickly raise their own army to protect them from a full blown Mexican invasion. I know, I know, US Army isn’t protecting them now from the non-violent invasion.
