You think Im overstating the case for persuasion. Perhaps you think Trump is doing well for a variety of reasons that include his accurate reading of the Republican base.
But Trumps accurate reading of the Republican base is part of the art of persuasion. None of what you see in Trumps election success so far is luck or coincidence. It is technique. If youre not trained to see it, the method is invisible.
For example, I have already used several persuasion techniques in the paragraphs above. If I were to see another writer use these same persuasion methods on me, I would recognize them. But most of you did not recognize the methods at least not all of them when I used them right in front of you.
Persuasion hides in plain sight.
Just for fun, Ive un-hypnotized several rabid anti-Trumpers lately. It takes less than ten minutes, requires nothing but conversation, and you can probably pull it off just by reading how I did it. Heres how.

Getting tired of hearing Scott tell us how smart he is. Hey Scott, you created Dilbert. The whole freaking world knows how smart you are. Really, we do, and we appreciate it and greatly enjoy it. But shaddap about it already!
It may not be possible to un-hypnotize them but try this.
Ask this question:
Do you favor increasing the number of H1B visas that allow companies to replace U.S. tech worker jobs with lower cost immigrants? Of do you think U.S. tech workers should be able to keep there jobs and not be replaced by lower cost workers? Then let them know Hillary favors increase HIB as a favor to the companies that donated money to her campaign.
This will be useful for fixing the last few rabid, braindead Zombie Cruzers on the forum.
“2039 Comments.” ‘Nuff said.
High five, Talisker.
Thank you, Mr. Adams for a helpful post. My sister is anti-Trump and I shall use your advice, especially: ‘He was against the Iraq war. He doesnt want boots on the ground in Syria.’ She will like to learn that.
Adams recommends ignoring hard-headed people like the cruznadians. They aren’t worth saving, er, persuading.
Eff those who play ‘hard to get’.
Even Jesus recommended trying to evangelize a person only once, and if he refuses the invitation, brush his dirt from yourself and move on.
They are too much effort for so little gain.
A bad investment.

High five backatcha. Here's the end of his post:
Note: I endorsed Hillary Clinton for my personal safety, because I live in California. But my political views do not align with any of the candidates for president.
Personally, I would do better under a Clinton presidency. If Clinton gets elected, no one will blame me for anything she does in office. But if Trump wins, my blogging about his persuasion skills will make it look like my fault every time he does something you dont like. I dont need that trouble.
Also, as a top one-percenter, Im winning under the current system. Trump is the only candidate who has the persuasion skills to increase tax rates on the rich, so #imwithher, for selfish reasons.
Now he says he is for Hillary!?
I guess you are one of those damn fools who thinks you can resurrect another candidate and defeat the only guy with the slightest chance if beating Hillary. So many of you fools keep posting lies and half truths about him. My guess is you are a democrat troll. Who the hell do you think would make a better candidate? That damned idiot Kasich? Cruz? All this crap damn fools like you keep posting and proliferating will be thrown back by the Dems in the general election. Trump won MORE delegates than needed, he got MORE popular votes than nearly any other Republican who ran in a primary and he will be the nominee. So go back to Democrat-land troll!
It's much more than it claims.
The headline should be more like: How to Reason with Someone Who has a Knee-Jerk Hatred for Trump
Most people have not made a career of learning the art of persuasion, and certainly even fewer have studied how to do so using humor in the manner that Scott Adams does. I do not read this as “look at me” so much as his attempt to spread understanding that many do not currently possess.
The ability to debate on the right side has atrophied after so many years of playing frightened rabbit to the left’s acolytes. This article seems to me to be an honest step in the right direction to resurrect the conservative movement’s ability to persuade.
If he had ghost-written this in the voice of Dogbert, it would have been much more of a paean to his own greatness, IMO.
“Now he says he is for Hillary!?”
Like most everyone else who has anything at all to do with the “media”, of course he’s for Hillary. But at least he’s honest enough to admit that he’s selling out the country because she would be better for his economic future, i.e., greed. His excuse that it’s for his own safety is nonsense. Also, in my opinion, his (phony?) pro-Trump post is merely a fairly successful attempt to boost his blog ratings and increase his Google Adsense revenue by baiting a lot of conservative and pro-Trump clicks.
I always thought Dilbert was a great strip and very well written, but, sorry Mr. Adams, you’ve lost me.
He’s “for” Hillary insofar as bad $#!^ happens to those who aren’t (see attacks at Trump rallies), so he’s on the record so he doesn’t get stoned or flogged or shoot for writing so much pro-Trump & anti-hillary stuff. More a statement of black comedy than political leaning.
He writes about persuasion and then proceeds to show that the media/rat straw men are in fact straw men. OK. Thanks.
Comments now up to 3,848.
He is merely hedging his bets and also using reverse psych on the PIAPS acolytes. He wants to appear impartial as part of his persuasion strategy, a common tactic. Remember you are always being played by both sides he just happens to think Trump is better than most at the game, which is a defensible position.
GREAT POST!
So he’s pro-Hillary, but writing pro-Trump articles persuading thousands, and expressing his pro-Hillary stance only in terms of raging sarcasm?
Really?
