#NeverTrump Officially Becomes a Bad Joke
Lifezette ^ | 6 June 2016 | Edmund Kozak

Neoconservative #NeverTrumper Bill Kristol’s fantasy of an independent “white knight” candidate appearing in the nick of time to save him, his cohorts at The Weekly Standard, and the three people left in America who read that magazine from the nefarious wiles of Donald Trump came crashing down this weekend.

David French, the National Review writer, lawyer, and Iraq War vet hand-picked by Kristol — in what will surely go down as one of the most anticlimactic announcements in U.S. political history — to be that #NeverTrump white knight has unequivocally rejected the honor.

“After days of prayer, reflection, and serious study of the possibilities, I am not going to run as an independent candidate for president of the United States,” French wrote in a statement published in the National Review Sunday.

Kristol is likely devastated — indeed, French’s tactical retreat from consideration seems to have hurled the pundit into a profound existential crisis. “In era of Trump, what is a Republican? A defender of constitutionalism? Rule of law? Limited government? Defense of liberty? Sound finances?” a confused and disillusioned Kristol tweeted on Monday morning.

But Kristol should also be embarrassed. While he has failed in his quest for a viable #NeverTrump alternative, he has succeeded unquestionably in turning the #NeverTrump “movement” — which at this point probably consists solely of Kristol and his neoconservative cabal — into a bad joke.

“A reinvigorated Republican Party ready to fight for national sovereignty and economic opportunity for all Americans — as opposed to a GOP obsessed with doomed adventures in foreign nation-building and cheap labor for the Chamber of Commerce — absolutely has a future. There just won’t be any room in it for Kristol and his ilk.”

Remember how a certain segment of our American family decided to us Rick Santorums name for something not so polite.

Perhaps we need to come up with something if not so vulgar and crude but negative that encompass the wholeness of the jealous stupid embodied in the pundit class.

He has so much saliva in his food coming his way - if he lucky.

Pretentious imbecilic demilog (zzzzz) I've heard even Fred Branes wouldn't let him come over and play with the Beltway Boys any more.

There just won't be any room in it for Kristol and his ilk.

This is exactly why Kristol is fighting. He is a dead-ender neoconservative and he knows it. He is fighting for the right to be an intellectual leader, an A-lister cocktail party attendee. In a Trump administration, not only will he not be invited to the best parties, but Trump will have four years to build a new establishment, that takes the place of the old GOPe. Kristol will not be the intellectual leader of the new GOP members, he will not be a member of the new GOPe, so he might as well retire.

I'll tell Kristol what a republican isn't. It isn't someone who runs on a checklist of conservative issues, wins, goes to Washington and then does nothing. Or worse, caves into democrats. We've tried doing nothing and it doesn't work. I am ready to try a guy that may not be as high on the purity checklist, but wants to win and get things done, over someone who just looks good on a checklist but never gets anything done.

Its not just Kristol, there is a whole slew of normally decent conservatives who have gone nutballs. I don’t know how to better say it. I suppose some were always sanctimonious pricks and warmonger globalists but others just behave as if they are suffering some kind of weird stockholm syndrome.

Like the whole LaRaza judge thing and the My Black African America criticisms. Every day its another stupid attack and without pause these NeverTrump zombies go after it. Its derangement far worse than any over Palin. Its like they expect Trump to suddenly get on his knees in front of the pc police and embrace the acceptance of double standards of being a Republican in a liberal media dominated world.

If i were one of his colleagues in the press, i’d be afraid his career-ending stupidity was contagious and would rub off on my own career.

I call him Kristol Meth. :-)

You're on to something there. It reminds me of how drug abusers aren't happy until they can drag down everyone else around them so they'll feel better about themselves. The mentality behind it is that it makes the drug user feel better about himself if everyone in the room is just as stupid as he is.

The "sanctimonious pricks and warmonger globalists" among them will never change and they'll never understand that's what they are. They think WE'RE the problem, not them.

However, there may be hope for some of the people in the group of "normally decent conservatives" you spoke of. The problem for them is that Trump makes them LOOK so bad!. They've been on their knees for years, just happy to be "one of the crowd." Then along comes this rich, brash guy who shines a spotlight on their kneepads. Ouch.

Yes, I'm suggesting that at least some of the NeverTrumpers are actually mad at themselves, not Trump (Maybe for spending so much time on their knees?) This 'a-hole' Trump guy makes them look bad and feel bad about themselves. They just haven't figured this out yet.

I'm going with at least half of them being unsalvageable in their careers at this point. For the pricks? I couldn't care less.

The cuckservative issue of National Review served as the obituary of allegedly conservative periodicals and op-eds and some of the allegedly conservative broadcast talking heads -- showing as it did that the participants are full of ****. Rarely of interest to the drive-bys, that garbage (and the dogpiling on the groundless accusations of racism against Trump) will be reappearing for years as quotes and references in many an op-ed by the partisan media shills.

Republicans haven't been any of those things for a long time. The hypocrisy is nauseating.
