Why So Many Men Are Living With Their Parents
New York Post ^ | May 30, 2016 | Karol Markowicz

When we think of a child passing into adulthood, we usually picture independent living — perhaps with roommates, alone or eventually with a partner or spouse. Today that picture might need some adjustment.

A Pew Research poll released last week found that American men age 18 to 34 are more likely to be living with their parents than in any other living situation.

What’s going on? What’s happening to men? And, just as important: Why?

“The System really makes it impossible to be independent and learn to be virtuous since the culture is as toxic, as the vulgar Weimar Republic was-—maybe even more toxic, so the worldview of the boys is extremely warped-—about life, about women, about Truth/God, and what true masculinity really is.”

The dominant culture is too sickly to live. It will not be blessed, and will fall apart under its own rotten weight.

A normal American male would work like heck to break free of parents and make his own way in a world of freedom and personal liberty. That would be the path of someone with real self esteem in a country driven by The Declaration and Constitution.

That situation (multiple generations living together) is returning due to economic conditions; I think it helps stabilize a neighborhood (so gibsmedats can’t loot while the makers are at work). I also think there is little use for the housing stock in my area (large, old single-family homes) if people won’t fill them, so it works out fine.

American women won’t succeed in the attempted shaming; the guys are too smart, and are looking out for themselves. When states like mine (NJ) are looking at revamping laws to entice men to marry again, then you KNOW it isn’t working.

Nothing wrong with family/clan investment bootstrapping as long as that is what is going on.

“That would be the path of someone with real self esteem in a country driven by The Declaration and Constitution.”

Maybe if they lived in one they’d do so. Once affirmative action withstood legal challenges and became the law of the land (and policy in many companies as well), the independent white American middle class was doomed. For example, young men in my town can’t take firefighter exams in neighboring Newark NJ due to their residency requirements, yet Newark residents can take ours because of some settlement negotiated with the NAACP (!). Don’t expect our young guys to strike out on their own any time soon; those are plum positions that allow people to take out mortgages and start families...

All those young men can’t be wrong; they are (often) saving themselves from a life of misery.

A former friend of mine, through fault of his own, got raked over the coals in a divorce (some jail in there too) and for now at 40 can’t afford to live on his own.

Well the education industry make an entire generation of indenture servants who have a decade of student loans to pay off. There are few jobs for the ones who did not go into nurse, scence or other technical degrees. At the same time, their parents cannot afford to retire, so the amount of job openings are fewer than ever. Therefore, we have the return of multi generation households.

Just as an aside for those with high school kids, if your kid has at least a 28 on his ACT and has a 3.0 or higher he can get a full tuition scholarship at a college somewhere. The higher the scores the more choices he will have. Do a search on college merit scholarships.

“parents need to kick adult kids out of the nest at 18 or so —”

You’re living in the ‘70s.

Even a casually interested person can do the math of an ‘18 year old moving out of the house’:

$7.25 x 29hr.s = $210, $170 after tax.

Now with that $680 per month factor expenses:

-rent: $500
-auto insurance: $100
-utilities: $150
-food: $180
-gas: $80
-clothing and incidentals: $80.

Total monthly expenses for 18-y.o. moving out of the house: $1090

Budget: $680 - $1090 = ($410) per month.

Your point is illogical and inadvisable. No one should listen to you.

Genesis 50:24–31

24 And Joseph said unto his brethren, I die, and go unto my fathers; and I go down to my grave with joy. The God of my father Jacob be with you, to deliver you out of affliction in the days of your bondage; for the Lord hath visited me, and I have obtained a promise of the Lord, that out of the fruit of my loins, the Lord God will raise up a righteous branch out of my loins; and unto thee, whom my father Jacob hath named Israel, a prophet; (not the Messiah who is called Shilo;) and this prophet shall deliver my people out of Egypt in the days of thy bondage.

25 And it shall come to pass that they shall be scattered again; and a branch shall be broken off, and shall be carried into a far country; nevertheless they shall be remembered in the covenants of the Lord, when the Messiah cometh; for he shall be made manifest unto them in the latter days, in the Spirit of power; and shall bring them out of darkness into light; out of hidden darkness, and out of captivity unto freedom.

26 A seer shall the Lord my God raise up, who shall be a choice seer unto the fruit of my loins.

27 Thus saith the Lord God of my fathers unto me, A choice seer will I raise up out of the fruit of thy loins, and he shall be esteemed highly among the fruit of thy loins; and unto him will I give commandment that he shall do a work for the fruit of thy loins, his brethren.

28 And he shall bring them to the knowledge of the covenants which I have made with thy fathers; and he shall do whatsoever work I shall command him.

29 And I will make him great in mine eyes, for he shall do my work; and he shall be great like unto him whom I have said I would raise up unto you, to deliver my people, O house of Israel, out of the land of Egypt; for a seer will I raise up to deliver my people out of the land of Egypt; and he shall be called Moses. And by this name he shall know that he is of thy house; for he shall be nursed by the king’s daughter, and shall be called her son.

30 And again, a seer will I raise up out of the fruit of thy loins, and unto him will I give power to bring forth my word unto the seed of thy loins; and not to the bringing forth of my word only, saith the Lord, but to the convincing them of my word, which shall have already gone forth among them in the last days;

31 Wherefore the fruit of thy loins shall write, and the fruit of thy loins of Judah shall write; and that which shall be written by the fruit of thy loins, and also that which shall be written by the fruit of the loins of Judah, shall grow together unto the confounding of false doctrines, and laying down of contentions, and establishing peace among the fruit of thy loins, and bringing them to a knowledge of their fathers in the latter days; and also to the knowledge of my covenants, saith the Lord.

“No. Because rent is $800/month and they owe $60,000 in student loans and they jobs available are minimum wage jobs”

They owe $60k because they take out loan money for far more than tuition and books. They also use their loan money for personal expenses, beer, dope, pizzas, you get the idea. If these people would work while attending college, maybe attend community college for their freshman and sophomore years, double or triple up on apt expenses, etc, they could graduate from college with little if any debt. But, they think they’re entitled to free miney and have no intention of ever paying their loans back. Screw’em.

Such a pity. The object of raising kids is to prepare them to be able to survive, and thrive, in the real world after you’re gone.

To coddle and shelter them into their 30’s is a disservice to them. To be in their 30’s/40’s and suddenly lose their parent(s) casts them to the dogs. To suddenly face the real world without preparation is like drinking from a fire hose. It’s overwhelming.
