Katie Couric's gun control movie has gotten a lot of criticism for fraudulently editing a discussion with the Virginia Defense League. Just earlier today apologized today for the misleading edits. EPIX has just announced that it is no longer showing the movie here. The two might not be unrelated. Will Apple now pull the movie from iTunes?

Most “journalists” can’t get two things straight in a row even if they try! I learned long ago that if you see a story involving numbers they are almost never all right. They can’t even calculate a percentage without screwing up. If you could actually check everything you would probably find that maybe one story in a thousand has all the facts straight.

I agree. Given the current and degrading condition of the media, one should always record the media interviewing them. Do tell the media either. Let them find out the hard way.
The video was NOT fraudulently edited. It was edited to produce a fraudulent result. Editing is editing. If you change something in the original it is called editing, whether you improve it or screw it up, remove lies or add lies. It is all just editing.

This was very well played by VCDl and I’m prouder than ever to be a member. Some take aways for conservative grass roots groups:
- Obviously always record your interactions with the media. Better, if you’re publicly demonstrating or doing something where it’s possible to cause problems with leftards, you should be recording it.
- A more subtle point: utilizing the leftmedia to get your point across is a good idea. VCDL is always willing to be interviewed by the leftmedia. That paid off big time. NOTE this story was picked up by more than 20 media outlets that I’m aware of. VCDL got hundreds of thousands of dollars of free advertising thanks to not so perky Katie. But they would have never got the coverage they did if they didn’t already have a professional relationship with the leftmedia. When VCDL caught the lying witch out, there were plenty of folks in the leftmedia willing to run with it.
-Be willing to ask for help from your members and supporters. When this broke, VCDL put out an alert to their email list asking that VCDL members and supporters spread the story far and wide. They did. I posted the alert here (although it was later buried). Other members spread it to other organizations, blogs, and the media. Net result: it was carried in a whole lot of places.
