DELTA, Pa. (AP) A couple who got lost in Pennsylvania while driving to New York entered the property of a nuclear plant by cutting a chain at a gate, apparently in a quest to get back on the right road, authorities said.
The Chesapeake, Virginia, couple were driving from Baltimore on Friday night when they got onto an access road at the Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station, owned by Exelon. The driver told police he didnt see two No trespassing signs when he cut the chain on the gate, The York Daily Record (http://bit.ly/27XVuF5) reported.
Exelon spokeswoman Krista Merkel said the couple never posed a threat to the plant and security was monitoring them the entire time they were on plant property.
It seemed they inadvertently made it to our property and were trying to find their way back out, Merkel said. They thought the only way they could get back was to cut the fence.
Police initially said, after consulting with security staff, that the man and woman appeared to have made it to a highly security sensitive area where radioactive material is transferred from the main power plant. If the couple had gone inside a nearby outbuilding, the plant would have been placed on lockdown and there was a possibility of lethal force being used, authorities said in court documents.

Was the woman wearing a headscarf?
It was a rock quarry. The chain had 7 padlocks on it, I guess so a number of people could have access.
Next time I drove by, I cut a link and put another padlock on, then I could drive to my spot instead of jumping over the gate!
However, did have to make another trip with the cutters.
These people already having cutters is weird.
I’ve been by a couple entrances to the plant. It’s a pretty remote area and not one on any normal route between Chesapeake, VA and New York.
This afternoon my son and I were checking out some mountain bike trails and got a little turned around. We could have left easily by riding through the yard of a small business, but I told him I’d rather not trespass unless we couldn’t find our way out. Of course, I’m not a meth head.
“No names. I suspect one of them was named Mohammed.”
“Timothy Lee Stewart, 28, and Jenilee Jean Simpson, 33, have been charged with trespassing at the Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station, the York Daily Record reports. “

Methheads, pro’ly thought chained fence meant Fort Knox, something worth lifting...
Not me, when I go for long drives, I take an acetylene torch set up for the harder jobs if I get lost.
“I think they are just stupid.”
Perhaps that’s only what you’re supposed to think. Inbred stupidity may be the best cover for an agent, after homosexuality.
That’s an idiotic, non-believable excuse for cutting a lock.
The problem is, what would be a good excuse?
“My kid threw his ball over the fence.”(?)
Timothy Lee Stewart, 28
Jennifer Jean Simpson, 33
The woman was arrested in Virginia Beach back in February of this year, for unauthorized use of a vehicle/animal/boat, bail was set at $3,500.00. Her boyfriend looks like a very old 28 and appears to not have all his teeth, judging from the set of his jaw. They had drug paraphernalia in the vehicle when arrested.
Yeah, when lost on back roads, doesn’t everyone assume that cutting a chain blocking a road is a sure-fired means of getting back onto a major paved highway?
Common event for me .....I carry bolt cutters as the cable lock on my trucks spare tire always seems to be rusted when / if I have a flat...... my excuse. Medium size harbor freight el cheapo pair of bolt cutters , right next to the jumper cables and panty hose improvised spare fan belt .
...... and I drive into a nuclear facility at least 5 days a week ....:o)
interesting. no names.
The names are there and we’ve posted their arrest photos.
Did she hold his beer?
They finally did show names...it was white trash.
When I see those lyrics, I hear the Tesla version!
This is an operational test to probe for vulnerabilities at the target site. This sounds like a Bill Ayers/Hussein Obama tactic.
I still think they are stupid, I don’t think it’s an act.
They couldn’t make bail.
Yeah, sure, just lost, not casing the place, not them.
