When I went to college, part of the experience was experiencing ideas from all over the political map. Some were intriguing, some were wacko, some were thought provoking. I mean, I remember going to a Lyndon LaRouche meeting at the behest of a friend (cue the Twilight Zone music). I also had the (extremely) good fortune to have a couple of conservative professors in economics and philosophy. I realize that that is not common in academia. Anyway, I got it all. I wouldn’t want to stifle any of it.

What point are you trying to make? You can't change people from being ANYTHING - drug addicts, burglars, rapists, etc. - unless they WANT to change. Anyway, I don't accept your presuppositional use of "gay" to mean anything meaningful in an intelligent discussion. It is purely a political term which means very little in the real world. There are vast number of types, causes and degrees of "same-sex attraction," but that's not "gay."
