Developed in the fifth century A.D. by St. Augustine, the doctrine of a just war empowers rulers to wage war only as a last resort to confront grave wrongs. As Augustine wrote: Peace should be the object of your desire; war should be waged only as a necessity.
Later, the Summa Theologica, written by St. Thomas Aquinas in the 1260s and 1270s, clarified that war could only be waged by a properly instituted authority like the state, that it could not occur for purposes of self-gain, and that attaining peace must be its central aim.

Which also means that the college of Cardinals are buffoons.
Just like the people that voted for Obama et.al.
It is profoundly depressing to see how deep a hole we are in.
Still we dig.
Psalm 109:8.
This too shall pass.
Actually the US-Japan relationship is an outstanding example of Just War making a lasting peace.
Japan launched a devastating sneak attack on us. We retaliated with the worst weapons ever devised by man.
Yet today, Japan is a closer friend and ally than those from whom we have a right to expect much more (I’m looking at YOU, Europe). And they have been virtually since that war ended.
It says something very profound about the power of forgiveness in the wake of a just war.
It is the opposite of the ‘80s.
Remember how we thought things were going our way because of that?
Civil disobedience works against moral folks. It fails utterly against immoral aggressors.
White people in America weren’t about to accept seeing black people arrested daily over the inability to sit at a lunch counter. The argument was correct and the action highlighted the need to change.
Pope Francis came in with a lot of expectations. He’s been a disappointment with how he seemingly wants to deliver Catholicism over to modernism at the expense of theological support.
Amen to that.
No, he embraced it.
Worst pope evah!
As long as he replaces it with the HOLY WAR and destroys the muslim infidels...right...pfffffff
This country’s turn from racism began in the 1840’s. With people who knew it was wrong from reading their Bible. By 1960 the process was getting pretty close to completion. The majority felt that black people being forced to use separate water fountains, being turned away from lunch counters, Jackie Robinson being denied employment despite being highly qualified.....was abhorrent.
Maybe he could just jettison himself from the papacy instead.
Exactly. Unless he can justify the removal of the Pontifical Swiss Guard from the Vatican, he's being hypocritical.
When someone is coming at you with a knife, it is very ineffective to "passively" resist him.
Even Jesus said, "...he who has no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one." - Luke 22:36 (partial)
What do you mean?
When the mooselimbs are at the walls of the Vatican and all sorts of men are being dragged from the palace and raped, forced to convert and killed including the fuehrer pope, let me know how he feels about the idea of a “just war”.
Natural rights are God given, and imply a God given natural duty to preserve and protect them. This implies that one has a perfect right to use force to preserve or protect one's God given natural rights.
Correct: which means he is NOT the pope.
If he or his Vatican-2 Council predecessors have as private individuals knowingly rejected Church doctrines or dogmas then they are no longer Catholic - same rule for everyone.
It is by Divine Law and the teaching of the Church Herself that if they are no longer Catholic then they cannot be the earthly head of the Mystical Body of Christ of which they are not a member. It applies whether they were heretics before or after their respective elections, but in all of these cases it was before election.
Nowhere in the article does he say what the headline says. Typical liberal BS
There's that post-Vatican II pattern rearing its ugly head again
